About Blakeney
Pulling up to the property, my heart did a little flip of anticipation – would it live up to the snaps? Blimey, it exceeded them. Impressive from the moment you arrive, this incredible barn conversion is a five-star choice for celebration getaways and reunions with friends. Hosting a group of six, the pet-friendly property is a real hidden gem, tucked away in Norfolk’s coastal village of Blakeney. Whilst the village’s shops and pubs are within metres of your doorstep, a real sense of peace and tranquillity is assured when relaxing both indoors and out. Proximity to the River Glaven and the Blakeney National Nature Reserve (0.5 miles) ensures that you’re never far from adventure, ideal when leaving the car behind and heading out on foot and paw. First impressions? Spot on. The place felt like a warm hug after that faffed journey – cosy corners for lounging, a cracking kitchen for group feasts, and a garden that begged for lazy afternoons with a GandT. We dumped the bags and legged it to the quayside, but the real magic kicked in when we ditched the obvious paths. Blakeney’s full of accidental discoveries if you let yourself wander. One morning, instead of the usual seal-spotting trek to the point, we veered off towards the River Glaven on a whim. What started as a dog-walk turned into stumbling on this tucked-away spot where the water meets marshy bits – herons fishing like pros, and not a soul in sight. We picnicked there for hours, feeling like we’d gatecrashed nature’s secret party. Another gem? Getting properly lost in the National Nature Reserve’s back trails. We followed a barely-there path behind the village, past Morston Creek, and ended up at this wild, empty beach cove where the seals were closer than the pubs back home. The dog went mental chasing waves, and we laughed till our sides hurt as one cheeky blighter honked at us from the spit. No maps, no crowds – just us, the wind, and that proper Norfolk quiet. Evenings, we’d mooch back for pub grub at the White Horse, but the best nights were firing up the barbecue in the garden, swapping stories of our “lost” finds. Looking back, that sat-nav glitch was a blessing. It reminded me I’m a bit of a control freak on holidays – always plotting the itinerary. But Blakeney taught me to embrace the wander, let the lanes lead you to those off-grid treasures. We left with muddy boots, full bellies, and a list of spots no guidebook mentions. If you’re after a getaway where the best bits hide round the corner, this is your spot. Can’t wait to go “lost” again. |
