About Norfolk
I finally made it to that sweet holiday home tucked away on a working arable farm in Norfolk's countryside, but not without a classic me moment on the journey. I'd set off from Norwich full of beans, sat-nav purring along the A1270, dreaming of crisp walks and cream teas. Then, halfway to Taverham, I took a wrong turn onto some narrow lane that looked promising on the map but turned out to be a tractor's playground. Stuck behind a massive combine harvester chugging at 10mph, I was fuming in my little hatchback, windows down, inhaling the earthy scent of fresh-turned soil. Twenty minutes later, I emerged, a bit windswept but laughing at myself – serves me right for not checking the farm roads bit.

Pulling up to the place, my heart did a little flip. It's this cosy one-bed apartment, all homely and inviting, right on the edge of the fields, just three miles from Taverham with its handy pubs, cafes and shops if you fancy a quick jaunt. The first impressions? Pure bliss. Sun dappling through the trees, birdsong everywhere, and that immediate sense of 'ahh, I've arrived somewhere special'. No grand entrance, just a welcoming vibe that whispered, "Slow down, love, you're on holiday now."

And slow down I did. This trip was all about doing very little, and boy, did it hit the spot. Mornings started lazy in the garden – a proper suntrap with views over the rolling farmland. I'd brew a pot of tea, settle into a lounger with a dog-eared paperback (currently devouring a P.G. Wodehouse for the giggles), and let the world drift by. The odd rabbit would hop past, or I'd spot a buzzard circling overhead, but mostly it was just me, the breeze rustling the hedges, and zero agenda. One afternoon, I wandered out the back gate onto the National Cycle Route 1 or Marriott's Way – both literally right there – but instead of pedalling off, I ambled a few hundred yards, found a shady spot under an oak, and read till my eyes went squinty. No need for the car; nature was on the doorstep.

Lunches were picnic-style from Taverham's deli – cheese ploughman's scoffed on a garden bench, crumbs attracting the sparrows. Evenings? Cosy up with a GandT, watching the sunset paint the sky pink over the fields. There was this one moment of gentle self-reflection as I sat there, feet up, realising how rare it is to just... be. Back home, life's a whirlwind of deadlines and notifications; here, time stretched out like elastic. I caught myself grinning at nothing, thinking, "Why don't I make more space for this?" A bit soppy, maybe, but Norfolk has that effect – it gently nudges you to unclench.

We nipped into Taverham once for a pub lunch at The King and Queen (cracking fish pie), but honestly, the joy was in the inertia. No big adventures, just lazy cottage days recharging the soul. If you're after a rural getaway alone or with your partner, this spot's a gem – pure, unhurried Norfolk magic. I left feeling lighter, already plotting a return.
