About Bath
I finally made it to Bath after a bit of a faff on the train from London. The journey started off smoothly enough, but then we hit delays near Bristol—something about leaves on the line, classic British rail excuse. I ended up standing for the last half hour, juggling my weekend bag and a takeaway coffee that was more spill than sip by the time I arrived. Still, as the taxi pulled up to the spot behind the Thermae Spa, all that irritation melted away. There it was: this lovely one-bedroom apartment tucked into the modern redo of St Catherine's Hospital, right in the city centre and just a stone's throw from the Roman Baths. The courtyard garden view from the front had me grinning already—lush greenery promising proper peace.

Stepping inside, I was chuffed to bits. It felt like a proper stylish retreat, all cosy and calm, with everything you need without any clutter. The bed looked like it was made for sinking into, and that serene garden outlook? Pure bliss. I'd been buzzing with anticipation on the train, imagining Roman ruins and pub crawls, but honestly, from the off, I knew this was going to be about doing sod all—and loving every minute.

First morning, I cracked open the French windows and plonked myself on the little outdoor chair with a cuppa and my book. The garden's this quiet haven, birds chirping away, no traffic hum to spoil it. Bath's buzz is right there if you want it—fifty metres to the Roman Baths if you're feeling energetic—but why bother? I spent hours just reading, feet up, letting the world slow right down. Lunch was a lazy picnic of cheese from the nearby deli and fresh bread, eaten sprawled on the sofa overlooking the courtyard. No rush, no plans. It's funny, innit? We pack so much into holidays, but here, the joy was in the nothing.

Afternoons blurred into gentle wanders at best—maybe a saunter to the spa for a steam if I fancied, or just back to the garden with a GandT from the corner offie. One evening, I caught myself staring at the leaves rustling, thinking about how I never do this at home. Work's always nagging, emails piling up, but in that apartment, time stretched out like toffee. I chuckled at my reflection in the window—me, the eternal doer, finally mastering the art of faffing about. No big adventures, just pure, unadulterated slowing down.

By the time I packed up on Sunday, I felt recharged without lifting a finger. Bath's magic isn't just the history; it's spots like this that let you breathe. If you're after a holiday where the highlight is a good book and a cracking view, this is your spot. Proper restorative. Can't wait to go back and do even less.
