About Cornwall
I finally made it to Carbis Bay after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive down from Bristol. Picture this: me, armed with a dodgy sat-nav that decided to throw a wobbly halfway through Devon, barking directions that led us straight into a narrow lane blocked by a flock of sheep. Proper Cornwall welcome, that was—horns blaring from behind, me frantically reversing with the kids in the back yelling about needing the loo. We arrived at the holiday property sweaty, frazzled, and about 20 minutes late, piling out of the car like we'd just escaped a heist.

But oh my word, the moment we stepped inside, all that stress melted away. It's one of those tastefully furnished places, finished to a high standard throughout, with a light and airy open-plan living space designed to make the most of its stunning seaside setting. Large windows and sliding doors frame wide sea views while filling the room with natural light, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere ideal for both entertaining and unwinding after a day by the coast. I stood there, bags still in hand, just gaping at the sparkling St Ives bay stretched out before us—waves crashing, gulls wheeling about. First impressions? Bloody brilliant. Or rather, absolutely spot on. The anticipation on the approach road, peering over the cliffs, had me buzzing, but this was next level.

We dumped our stuff and straight out those sliding doors to the terrace, breaths taken away by the view. Porthkidney Sands right there, golden and empty in the late afternoon sun, begging for a paddle. The kids were off like shots, shoes abandoned, while I cracked open a cold cider from the fridge (cheers to well-stocked welcome baskets). That first evening, we wandered down to the beach—it's literally a minute's stroll—dipping toes in the chilly Atlantic, building lopsided sandcastles that the tide claimed before dinner. Laughed about the sheep fiasco over fish and chips from a beachside van; nothing fancy, just proper salty, greasy perfection wrapped in paper.

Next morning, still riding that high, we hopped the short path to St Ives. Porthmeor Beach for a surf lesson—me flailing about on a board like a drunk seal, wiping out spectacularly while the instructor stifled giggles. Lunch at a harbourside café, pasties steaming hot, then a meander through the cobbled streets, popping into galleries with those bright, abstract paintings that scream Cornwall. Back at the property by tea time, collapsing into the plush sofas with the sea vista as our telly. Cooked up a simple pasta, doors flung wide to let the salty breeze in, proper unwinding.

Looking back, that messy arrival was the perfect setup—nothing like a bit of chaos to make the calm hit harder. Makes you reflect on how we pack our lives with rush, doesn't it? Here, staring out at the endless ocean, everything slowed right down. Can't wait to return; Carbis Bay's got its hooks in me now.
