About Cornwall
I’ll never forget the drive down to Newquay – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the M5 turned into a proper comedy of errors. We’d set off full of beans, playlist blaring with some classic Britpop, dreaming of pasties and crashing waves. But halfway through Devon, the sat-nav decided to throw a wobbly, rerouting us down these tiny lanes that felt more like goat tracks than roads. Then, just as we hit the outskirts of Cornwall, a rogue seagull dive-bombed the windscreen, leaving us in hysterics and scraping off feathers at a layby. By the time we trundled onto the Pentire Peninsula, we were knackered, covered in crisp crumbs from a desperate service station snack, and questioning our life choices.

Pulling up to this cracking luxury apartment, though, all that faded in a flash. Perched right between Fistral Beach and the Gannel Estuary, it’s got the kind of spot that makes your heart skip – sea views on tap, surfers dotting the horizon like ants on a picnic. We tumbled out of the car, bags everywhere, me fumbling the keys while the other half wrestled with the cooler bag that’d sprung a leak (cue milky puddle on the drive). But stepping inside? Blimey, instant love. It’s this bright, airy open-plan haven, all contemporary vibes with two south-facing balconies begging for morning coffees and evening sundowners. Perfect for us lot – a couple with a cheeky toddler in tow – without feeling cramped.

The living room-kitchen-diner setup is spot on: sleek white units in the fully-equipped kitchen, dishwasher humming away already (bless it), a breakfast bar for hasty porridge sessions, and a proper dining table for plotting the day over fish and chips. We dumped our stuff and straight out to the balconies – one glimpse of the sun dipping over the waves, and we were grinning like idiots. First impressions? Ten out of ten. It’s the sort of place that whispers “relax” even when you’re still unpacking pants.

That first evening, we wandered down to Fistral, just a hop away, toes in the sand, watching the pros shred the waves at the beach’s famous surf school. The air’s alive with salt and laughter, seals barking from the estuary rocks. Back at the flat, we whipped up spag bol at the breakfast bar – nothing fancy, but with that view, it felt gourmet. Sat there reflecting as the sun set, I had one of those quiet moments: life’s too short for sat-nav tantrums. This Cornish bolthole reminded me why we do these getaways – chaos and all, it’s pure magic. If you’re after a coastal reset without the faff, this is your spot. Can’t wait to go back.
