About Cornwall
I’ll never forget the drive down to Cornwall – we piled into the car in Bristol full of excitement, kids buzzing about beaches and pasties, only for us to hit a proper snarl-up just past Bodmin. Some cheeky diversion had us crawling along for what felt like hours, with the sat nav doing its usual dance of “recalculating”. By the time we rolled into Pentire, tempers were frayed and crisps were scattered everywhere like confetti from a toddler tantrum. But honestly, that little mishap just made the arrival all the sweeter.

Pulling up to this spacious luxury apartment on the third floor of a smart little development, my heart lifted straight away. It’s brilliantly placed, just a mile’s stroll into Newquay town centre, right by the headland with Fistral Beach sprawling out below. We tumbled in through the hallway, past the bedrooms and bathroom, into this cracking open-plan living room. The sofa and chair were massive – perfect for us lot to flop down and debrief the day while staring out at the sea. And that balcony? Blimey, we stepped straight out to jaw-dropping views over the Atlantic, right down the coast to Trevose Head lighthouse. It was like the holiday gods had rolled out the red carpet.

The place had two bedrooms: ours with a king-size bed, en-suite boasting a bath and that fancy rainfall shower (plus a changing room that made me feel posh for five minutes), and the twins’ room opposite the family bathroom. Simple, comfy, no fuss – just what we needed for a family break. No airs and graces, but luxury enough to make you grin.

First morning, we laced up and hit the coastal path right from the door. Those walks! 360-degree views down to Crantock Beach and the Gannel Estuary, wind in our hair, kids charging ahead like feral goats. We’d puff up to the headland, spotting seals bobbing about, then reward ourselves at Lewinnick Lodge. Proper treat – scoffed a massive Cornish breakfast one day, then lingered over lunch another, with the sea crashing below. The food’s on till late, so no rush.

Days blurred into this blissful chaos of cottage life (well, apartment life, but you get me). Building wonky sandcastles on Fistral, the kids getting buried up to their necks while I pretended not to panic about the tide. Picnics on the beach with pasties from Newquay high street – flaky, steaming, utterly messy. Evenings on the balcony with fish and chips, watching surfers carve up the waves till sunset. One night, the littlest one conked out mid-bite, pasty still in hand – cue gentle chaos as we manoeuvred her to bed without waking the beast.

Looking back, it was those simple pleasures that hit home. Amid the sandy towels and endless “Muuuum, he touched me!” squabbles, I had this quiet moment on the balcony, mug of tea in hand, realising how rare it is to just *be*. No schedules, no screens (much), just us and the ocean’s endless rhythm. Pentire’s magic is in that unhurried vibe – a proper reset. If you’re after relaxed family bliss with a side of stunning views, this is your spot. We’re already plotting a return.
