Our trip to Cornwall staying in a holiday cottage with Hut Tub
Pulling up to the cottage after that palaver, though, all was forgiven in a heartbeat. Nestled right in the middle of 34 acres of lush, unspoilt countryside, this rural dog-friendly retreat looked like something out of a postcard – luxurious without being fussy, just the perfect spot for a couple like us to properly unwind. First impressions? Spot on. The south coast's pristine beaches were only a short hop away, and those shared facilities on site – a steaming hot tub and a cheeky little gym – had us grinning like kids. Monty was in heaven, sniffing every blade of grass before flopping down on the welcome mat. We wasted no time settling in. First morning, we wandered the grounds hand-in-hand, breathing in that fresh Cornish air, with Monty tugging at his lead like he owned the place. Lunch was a simple affair: pasties from a nearby farm shop (proper ones, flaky and stuffed with proper chunks of beef), eaten on a rug outside while watching the clouds scoot by. No rush, no schedules – just us, the countryside, and the odd bleat from distant sheep for company. Afternoons were for lazy explores. A gentle stroll down to Seaton beach, maybe a paddle in the shallows if the tide was right, or just kicking about Looe harbour, eyeing the fishing boats and grabbing ice creams that dripped faster than the seagulls could swoop. Back at the cottage, we'd fire up the hot tub as the sun dipped, Monty curled up nearby, pretending he wasn't jealous of the bubbles. One evening, trying to cook a romantic pasta turned into comedy gold – sauce everywhere, Monty hoovering up the spills – but it was those little cock-ups that made it feel so real, so us. I have to say, sitting there one quiet night with a glass of wine, stars popping out over the fields, I caught myself reflecting. Life's mad rush back home – deadlines, emails, the lot – it all felt miles away. Here, in this cosy haven, it was a reminder that the best bits are the simple ones: shared laughs, a dog's wagging tail, and no signal to distract you. We left feeling recharged, already plotting our next escape. If you're after that chilled couple's break with a side of countryside bliss, this is your spot. Proper magic. |
