Autumn shaped every minute of our stay, turning the ordinary into something special. Mornings started misty, with dew clinging to spiderwebs like fairy lights, perfect for a wander around the garden before breakfast. We’d fire up the pit mid-afternoon, flames crackling against the cooling air, roasting chestnuts while the sun dipped low, painting everything in that honeyed light. Families with littluns would love the nearby adventure spots like The Milky Way (14 miles) or The Big Sheep (17 miles), though we opted for quieter pursuits—think woolly jumpers and hot pasties from Bude’s indie cafes. Clovelly’s donkey paths were a highlight too, those steep cobbled streets lined with fiery foliage, huffing up for the views. Even a splash at North Devon Aqua Wake park (14 miles) felt seasonal, the chill water making the hot chocolate afterwards taste heavenly.

Looking back, that little mishap on the road was a gift—it reminded me to slow down and savour these moments. Autumn here isn’t just a season; it’s a full-on embrace of cosy chaos, wild coasts, and simple joys.
