About Devon
I finally made it to Teignmouth after what felt like the world's slowest drive down from Bristol. Picture this: me, a thermos of tea, and the sat-nav deciding to have a midlife crisis just past Exeter, rerouting us through every narrow lane in Devon. We ended up behind a tractor for a good 20 minutes, honking its way along like it owned the place. I was ready to fling myself into a hedge, but then the sea came into view – that shimmering stretch of the English Channel – and suddenly, all was forgiven. The anticipation built as we wound down into town; I could practically taste the salt air already.

Pulling up to this stylish modern apartment right in the heart of Teignmouth was a proper treat. It's the sort of place that welcomes up to four with open arms, all sleek lines and south-facing balcony screaming 'relax here forever'. First impressions? Blown away. Stepping inside, the panoramic views over the town and out to the Channel hit like a warm wave – sparkling water, little boats bobbing about, and not a care in sight. Just a five-minute stroll to the sandy beaches and the buzz of the town centre, with its cafés and shops, but honestly, who needs to rush?

The joy of the whole trip was doing precisely nothing, and I mean that in the best possible way. No grand plans, no ticking off lists – just lazy days stretching out like the horizon. Mornings kicked off with coffee on the balcony, feet up, watching the world wake up below. The other half and I (plus the dog, who claimed the rug as his throne) would potter about the place, which felt like our own little seaside bubble. I'd crack open a book – some trashy thriller I'd been saving – and lose hours to it, only breaking to make a cuppa or nibble on pasties from the local bakery down the road.

The balcony became our command centre. South-facing bliss meant sun all day, perfect for lounging with a GandT as the sun dipped low. We'd spot folks strolling the promenade, maybe a fisherman hauling in the day's catch, but we were quite content being spectators. Inside, it was all about slowing right down – lazy lunches of cheese and crackers, afternoon naps with the windows open to the sound of gulls. One day, I caught myself just staring at the waves, mesmerised, and had this gentle moment of reflection: when did I last switch off like this? Work's non-stop emails felt a million miles away, and it hit me how rare it is to just *be*.

Evenings were pure indulgence: firing up the hob for a simple pasta, then back out to watch the lights twinkle across the harbour. A short wander to a nearby café for fish and chips if we fancied, but mostly, we stayed put, savouring the coastal hush. Teignmouth's got that unhurried vibe – pristine beaches on the doorstep, yet our days were a masterclass in doing sod all. The garden? Well, it's more of a shared terrace affair, but those plant pots and sea breezes made it feel like our secret haven for reading and daydreaming.

Coming home, I felt recharged, not knackered. If you're after a seaside getaway where the highlight is mastering the art of lounging, this is it. Proper holiday magic.
