Our trip to Devon staying in a holiday cottage with Hut Tub
But oh, the first glimpse made it all worthwhile. Pulling up to this gorgeous luxury cottage, one of a handful dotted around the estate, I felt that proper holiday buzz kick in – you know, the one where all the pre-trip stress melts away? It sleeps up to ten, so it was spot-on for our rabble of mates and family, and from the outside, it looked like the perfect cosy retreat amid five acres of lush grounds. We tumbled out, still giggling about our navigational disaster, and the anticipation built as we unlocked the door. Inside, it was even better than the photos – spacious, light-filled rooms with everything you could need for a proper unwind. Plump sofas begging for a collapse, a kitchen big enough to rustle up a feast without elbowing anyone, and those little touches like fluffy towels and fresh milk in the fridge that make you feel instantly at home. We dumped the bags and made a beeline for the shared heated indoor pool just a short stroll away on-site. Pure bliss after the road chaos – the water was warm as toast, and the kids were splashing about like otters while we adults floated, sipping tea from the thermos we’d miraculously not spilled. There’s even an all-weather tennis court if you fancy a knockabout, though I reckon we’ll save that for a drier day. Being so close to Barnstaple meant we could nip out for essentials without hassle, but honestly, who’d want to leave? The grounds are a dream for lazy wanders, and it’s an easy drive to those cracking beaches like Woolacombe or Croyde – we’re already plotting a sandcastle session tomorrow. Reflecting on it now, that mishap-filled arrival was a blessing in disguise. It reminded me how these little hiccups make the good bits shine brighter. Instead of gliding in all polished, we arrived laughing, ready to let loose in this slice of North Devon heaven. If you’re after a base for family antics or matey get-togethers, with Exmoor’s trails just begging for a hike and the sea on your doorstep, this is the spot. We’re hooked – can’t wait to explore more. |
