Our trip to Dorset staying in a holiday cottage with Hut Tub
Stepping inside felt like sinking into a warm hug. The place had that cosy, lived-in vibe we adore, with big windows framing the lake and everything laid out for lazy days. We dumped the bags and cracked open a bottle of fizz to celebrate not being lost forever. First impressions? Spot on. The anticipation built on the journey melted away as we fired up the hot tub that evening, bubbles churning under a pink sunset while ducks quacked their approval from the water’s edge. Next morning, we ambled out for a gentle wander around the lake path – it’s right there on the doorstep, all peaceful ripples and birdsong. Dorset does this sort of simple magic so well. We pottered into Dorchester, just a short hop away, for a mooch around the high street. Grabbed fresh scones from that lovely bakery near the museum (proper clotted cream ones, none of your skimpy nonsense), and sat on a bench people-watching like nosy locals. Afternoon was pure bliss: a dip in the heated pool, which was blissfully empty, followed by a rubbish but hilarious tennis rally on the court. I’m no Murray, but whacking a ball about with him giggling at my wild swings was the highlight. Evenings were cottage life at its chaotic best. We’d rustle up pasta in the big kitchen, spilling sauce everywhere because who needs precision on holiday? One night, the hot tub session turned into a splash fight that left us prune-skinned and cackling. No kids in tow, just us two rediscovering that easy rhythm we’d lost in the daily grind. There was this quiet moment, staring at the stars from the deck, where I caught myself thinking how we’d let life get a tad too hectic back home. Holidays like this? They’re the gentle nudge to keep things simple. We even squeezed in a walk to the nearby river spot for a spot of wild swimming – bracing but brilliant – and a pub lunch at a cosy Dorchester boozer with ploughman’s that hit the spot. No grand plans, just those little joys: morning swims, lazy barbecues, and collapsing into bed knackered from fresh air. Leaving felt bittersweet, but we’re already plotting a return. Dorset’s got that pull – unpretentious, restorative, and utterly ours for the weekend. |
