About Dorset
I finally made it to Weymouth after what felt like the scenic route from London, thanks to a daft wrong turn near Dorchester that had me looping round a roundabout three times like a proper numpty. Sat nav said one thing, my gut said another, and guess who won? Not me. But as I crested the hill into town, the sun dipping over the harbour, all that faded. There it was, sparkling below – boats bobbing gently, the sea air hitting me like a welcome hug. My heart did a little flip; this was going to be spot on.

Pulling up to the third-floor penthouse apartment, I was buzzing with that arrival buzz – you know, unpacking the car while eyeing up the view, wondering what lazy delights awaited. It's a stylish two-bedroom spot, perfect for me and my other half, sleeping four if we'd brought mates along. Lift or stairs, your call, and that underfloor heating? Pure bliss for chilly evenings. Stepped inside to an open-plan living-dining room with a fabulous position overlooking the harbour. First impressions? Couldn't fault it. Sofa practically begged you to sink in and watch the world go by – boats swaying, gulls wheeling, not a care in the world.

We'd planned grand Jurassic Coast walks, maybe a jaunt to Portland Bill, but honestly? The joy was in doing bugger all. Proper lazy cottage days – well, penthouse days – that's what we craved. Mornings started slow: brew a coffee in the sleek kitchen (it's got everything to whip up a fry-up or something posh if the mood strikes), then flop on the sofa with a book. I devoured that new Richard Osman, chuckling away while the harbour did its thing outside the window. No rush, no itinerary. Just us, slowing right down.

The balcony became our garden of sorts – nothing fancy, but with those harbour views, it felt like our private Eden. We'd potter out with mugs of tea, toast with marmalade, and watch the fishing boats chug in. One afternoon, I swear I spent three hours there, feet up, lost in a paperback about Dorset smugglers. The other half napped inside, Smart TV murmuring some period drama. Lunch? A simple picnic from the Co-op down the hill – cheese ploughman's, crisps, nothing more. Evenings were the best: cook up pasta or fish from the harbour stalls, plates on laps, wine in hand, gazing at the sunset painting the water pink. No restaurants, no hustle – just that delicious rhythm of tides and time standing still.

It got me reflecting, mid-book on day three. Life back home's a whirlwind – deadlines, emails, the lot. Here, I caught myself just... breathing. Watching a yacht tack lazily across the bay, I thought, "This is it, innit? The point of a holiday." No grand adventures needed; sometimes the best bit is the quiet. We did dip out once for a gentle stroll along the esplanade, ice creams in hand, waving at paddleboarders, but mostly? Blissful nothing. Weymouth worked its magic, and I left feeling lighter, already plotting a return for more of the same. If you're after recharging proper, this is your spot.
