About Dorset
I finally made it to Dorset after what felt like the world's slowest drive down from London. Picture this: me, my partner, and our soppy Labrador, Monty, crammed into the car with a boot full of snacks and zero sense of direction. About halfway through, disaster struck – I took a wrong turn onto some narrow lane that dead-ended at a field full of very unimpressed cows. We ended up doing a 20-point turn while Monty barked his head off, thinking it was all part of the fun. Laughing our socks off, we eventually got back on track, and by the time we trundled into Swanage, the sun was dipping low over the sea, painting everything golden. My heart did a little flip – this was going to be proper.

Pulling up to our spot, a short stroll from the town centre, I was chuffed to bits. It's this cracking ground-floor apartment, all sleek and stylish, done up just right for the two of us and Monty. No faffing with stairs after a long drive, and that first glimpse through the windows? Breathe-taking views straight out to the shoreline. We dumped the bags in the open-plan living area, which is basically heaven for lazy bones like me – a smart telly for binge-watching, a kitchen begging for bacon butties, and a dining spot for two. Monty immediately claimed the rug as his throne.

From that moment, we did bugger all, and it was bliss. No grand plans, no ticking off lists of must-sees. Just us, slowing right down. Mornings kicked off with brekkie on the patio, coffee steaming as we watched the waves roll in. Swanage might be buzzing just down the road with its chip shops and pubs, but we barely ventured further than the garden. That lush lawn became Monty's personal playground – he'd chase his tail for hours while we lounged with books. I devoured a dog-eared paperback I'd been meaning to read for ages, feet up, feeling the tension from work melt away like ice cream on a hot day.

Afternoons blurred into siestas. We'd flop on the outdoor chairs, dozing to the sound of gulls, or I'd sneak back inside for a soak in the free-standing bath. Pure indulgence, bubbles up to my chin, staring out at the sea. My partner would potter about rustling up simple suppers – nothing fancy, just pasta or a ploughman's from the local shops – and we'd eat out there as the sun set, pink and orange streaking the sky. Evenings? Curled up watching rubbish telly, Monty snoring between us. One night, I caught myself just staring at the view, thinking, 'Blimey, when did I last switch off like this?' Work emails? Forgotten. Deadlines? What deadlines? It was a gentle nudge that life's too short not to savour these nothing-moments.

A little walk into town for a pint at one of the cosy pubs was the extent of our excitement, but honestly, who needs more? Coming back to our little haven, bike storage at the ready if we'd ever bothered (we didn't), felt like slipping into slippers. Dorset's coast has this magic way of making you grateful for the quiet. We left feeling recharged, Monty worn out from all his "adventures," and me promising myself more of this lazy lark. If you're after proper downtime, this is your spot – do sod all, and love every second.
