About Dorset
I finally made it to Charmouth after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive down from Bristol. Picture this: me, sat-nav in one hand, a lukewarm Costa in the other, and my other half nagging me to slow down as we dodged a rogue pheasant that decided the A35 was its personal runway. Then, just as we hit the narrow lanes leading into the village, the heavens opened – proper Dorset deluge, the kind that turns windscreen wipers into a blur. We missed the turning twice, ended up in a puddle that nearly swallowed the car whole, and arrived looking like drowned rats, lugging suitcases through a downpour that had us both giggling like idiots.

But oh, stepping into that ground-floor apartment? Instant mood-lifter. It's this cosy, stylish spot right in the heart of Charmouth, perfect for us two – no stairs to lug bags up, thank goodness. We shook off the rain and were greeted by this lovely open-plan living space that just screamed 'relax here'. That sumptuous sofa? Absolute star of the show. I flopped onto it immediately, feeling the tension from the drive melt away, while the windows gave us a front-row seat to village life ticking by outside – folks popping into the bakery opposite, dogs on leads heading to the beach. TV on standby for a lazy evening, everything spotless and tastefully done up, like a proper home from home.

First impressions were spot on; it felt intimate without being poky, well-equipped with all the bits you forget you need – decent coffee machine, fluffy towels, even a cheeky welcome pack with local biscuits. We dried off, cracked open a bottle of wine, and just sat there watching the rain ease off, chatting about how we'd struck gold with this bolthole. No grand hotel fuss, just us, comfy and content.

Next morning, anticipation from the night before paid off big time. A quick wander down to Charmouth's beach – it's literally minutes away – and we were fossil-hunting along the shore, eyes peeled for ammonites in the Jurassic mud. The tide was out, exposing all those rippled sands, and we spent hours poking about, me getting overly excited over a rock that turned out to be a lumpy pebble (classic me). Lunch at a nearby café with crab sandwiches and chips, overlooking the sea – simple, fresh, perfect. Afternoon was Lyme Regis direction, just a short stroll along the coastal path, puffing up the undercliff with views that make you forget the arrival farce entirely.

Staying here made me reflect a bit, you know? Life's always throwing those little mishaps – the wrong turn, the sudden rain – but they make the good bits shine brighter. This place was our reset button: no distractions, just quality time, seaside air, and that sofa calling us back each evening. If you're after a chilled Dorset escape for two, you can't go far wrong with something like this. We're already plotting a return, minus the pheasant detour next time.
