About Meadow.
Blandford Forum, a market town in Dorset along the River Stour, is famed for its Georgian architecture. Devastated by fire in 1731, it was rebuilt in the 18th century with funds from King George II and designs by the Bastard brothers. The town celebrates its heritage each May with the Blandford Georgian Fayre, featuring speeches, re-enactments, music and dance. Nearby attractions.
Our trip to Dorset staying in a holiday cottage with Hut Tub
Stepping inside with our little dog in tow, it was love at first sight. The studio-style layout felt just right for two of us, open and airy with a smart contemporary kitchen where I could knock up a simple pasta without any faff. The dining spot for two was cosy, and the TV was there for the odd bit of background noise, but honestly, we barely switched it on. It was the kind of place that whispered "slow down" from the moment you arrived – pet-friendly, thoughtfully equipped, and screaming home-from-home for a proper romantic unwind. The real star, though? That private patio out back. We parked up the car, unpacked in five minutes flat, and there it was: outdoor furniture begging for cups of tea, a barbecue we fired up once (salmon and veg, nothing fancy), and – oh my word – the hot tub. Sinking into that bubbling warmth after a gentle wander was pure bliss. The chalet sits in 28 acres of woodlands and gardens, so we'd amble out for a nose around the paths, listening to birdsong and watching butterflies flit about, but never straying far. No grand hikes or packed itineraries; this trip was all about doing very little, and it suited us down to the ground. Mornings started slow with coffee on the patio, watching mist lift over the fields towards Blandford. I'd crack open a book – some trashy novel I'd been saving – while he dozed nearby with the dog sprawled across his lap. Afternoons blurred into hot tub sessions, maybe a light lunch rustled up from local bits we'd grabbed from the Forum's market (cheddar, anyone?), followed by more reading under the trees. One evening, as the sun dipped low, we barbecued sausages and just sat there, feet up, chatting about nothing much. It was gloriously uneventful, the kind of holiday where time stretches out like toffee. I had a quiet moment of reflection one afternoon, lounging in the garden with my book forgotten on my knee. Life back home rushes by – deadlines, emails, the daily grind – but here, in this Dorset haven, I realised how knackered I'd been without knowing it. Switching off isn't just nice; it's essential. No regrets about the sat-nav fiasco; it was the perfect opener to the most restorative few days. If you're after a spot to truly unwind, with countryside views, a furry friend welcome, and not a care in the world, this is it. We left feeling utterly recharged, already plotting a return. |
