About Forest Of Dean
I’ll never forget the drive down to the Forest of Dean – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the Midlands turned into a comedy of errors thanks to that cheeky sat-nav glitch. There I was, humming along to the radio with my other half, bags piled high in the boot, when the thing decided to send us on a scenic detour through some narrow lanes that hadn’t seen daylight since the war. We ended up at a dead end with a herd of curious cows staring us down, and me reversing like a learner driver while swearing under my breath (well, almost). By the time we spotted the right turn-off, we were both giggling hysterically, an hour late and starving.

Pulling up to this cracking first-floor apartment right in the heart of the Forest of Dean had us buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation – you know, that fluttery excitement mixed with ‘please let it not be a dump’. We nabbed a roadside spot bang on cue, hauled our stuff up the stairs (note to self: pack lighter next time), and stepped inside to absolute bliss. First impressions? Spot on. It’s this cosy, well-turned-out spot that screams ‘relax and forget the world’, perfect for a couple like us or even a small family wanting a proper getaway. The living/dining room hit us like a warm hug – big sofa bed for lounging, Smart TV ready for a binge, and a dining table that practically begged us to crack open a bottle of wine.

The kitchen’s a dream too, kitted out with every gadget you could wish for on holiday – dishwasher, microwave, and bless it, a washing machine that saved my socks after that muddy detour. We dumped our bags, freshened up in the slick shower room, and flopped into the comfy double bed, already plotting the days ahead. Location-wise, it’s genius – shops, pubs, and eateries just a stroll away, plus easy walks into those lush Dean woods that make your soul sing.

That first evening, we wandered to a nearby pub for pie and a pint, the air thick with that earthy forest scent. Light humour in the chaos of arrival made it all the sweeter – I caught myself reflecting, mid-bite, how these little mishaps are what stick in the memory banks, turning a holiday into a story worth retelling. Waking up to birdsong the next morning, peering out at the greenery, I felt properly unwound. If you’re after a bolthole that blends comfort with that magical Dean vibe – trails like Symonds Yat just minutes off, or a gentle amble to the River Wye – this place delivers. We left buzzing, already plotting a return. What a cracking find.
