Our trip to Padstow staying in a holiday cottage with Hut Tub
Pulling up, the first impressions were spot on. Nestled right in the St Minver lowlands, it had that welcoming vibe from the off – modern lines blending seamlessly with the rural charm, and a garden that screamed lazy afternoons with a GandT. We tumbled out, bags everywhere, and the kids immediately dashed off to explore, yelling about space for a footie match. Inside, it was light and airy, just what we needed after the road rage. Great big windows framed those rolling fields, and the setup was ideal for our rabble – multiple bedrooms, a massive kitchen for communal feasts, and lounging areas that promised telly marathons. That first evening, we barely unpacked before heading out. Polzeath’s just a short hop away, this seaside hotspot where the golden sands begged for a stroll. We timed it for low tide, paddling in the shallows while surfers carved the waves – pure magic. Refuelled at one of the village’s cracking little eateries, tucking into fresh fish and chips with sandy toes under the table. Next morning, we joined the South West Coast Path for a breezy walk around Pentire Headland. The views! Seals bobbing in the distance, and we swear we glimpsed a dolphin fin – the kids were beside themselves, binoculars glued to their faces. Port Quin’s sheltered cove, less than a mile and a half from the door, was our sneaky gem. We wandered down, picnicked on pasties, and skimmed stones while the sea whispered secrets. Back near the property, we nipped to Port Isaac – only five miles – for supplies and souvenirs. The harbour’s a treat: fishermen hauling in the day’s catch, rock pools teeming at low tide. We even hummed a Fisherman’s Friends shanty, feeling dead Cornish. A quick ferry across the Camel Estuary to Rock (four miles the other way) rounded off a perfect day – posh vibes, but proper relaxed. Looking back, that chaotic arrival was the best icebreaker. It forced us to ditch the stresses and dive into the moment. In a world of non-stop hustle, this place reminded me how a bit of Cornish coast and good company can reset your soul. We left knackered but buzzing, already plotting next year’s return. |
