Our trip to Padstow staying in a holiday cottage with Hut Tub
I finally made it to that little holiday cottage near Padstow after a bit of a faff on the journey down. I'd been buzzing with anticipation all week, picturing lazy days in Cornwall's gentle countryside, but typical me, I took a wrong turn somewhere past Bodmin and ended up on a narrow lane that had me white-knuckling the steering wheel as a tractor bore down on us. Heart in my mouth, we squeezed by with inches to spare, laughing it off with the windows down and the radio blaring. By the time we pulled up, though, those first impressions? Pure magic. Tucked a stone's throw from the peaceful village of Lanivet, this cosy spot for two felt like our own private Cornish bolthole, all intimate and inviting.

We stepped inside to this charming open-plan studio that just wrapped us up in its soft, romantic vibe. High vaulted ceilings gave it an airy feel, and the kitchen was kitted out perfectly for pottering about—no need to rush anywhere. We cracked open the welcome Cornish cream tea straight away, scoffing scones with clotted cream and jam at the breakfast bar, proper unhurried stuff. It was like the cottage was whispering, "Slow down, you've earned it." And boy, did we listen.

The real joy was doing sod all, honestly. After unpacking (which took all of five minutes), we flopped onto the plush sofa with a couple of books I'd brought along—mine was some daft detective novel, hers a rom-com paperback. The Smart TV was there if we fancied a film later, but who needs Netflix when you've got birdsong filtering through the windows? We spent the first afternoon just reading in the sunshine streaming in, feet up, occasionally glancing at each other with that "this is the life" grin. I even nodded off for a bit, which isn't like me at all—usually I'm itching to be out and about.

Come evening, we wandered out to the private decking, and it was dreamy. That hot tub? An absolute godsend. We slipped in as the sun dipped low, bubbles fizzing around us, sipping gin and tonics from the comfy seating nearby. The quiet countryside wrapped around us like a hug—no traffic, no crowds, just the odd rustle in the hedges. We stayed out there stargazing till our fingers pruned, chatting about nothing much, which somehow felt like everything. It was one of those moments that makes you reflect: life's so frantic back home, always chasing the next thing. Here, we were properly present, just us and the stillness.

The next couple of days blurred into more of the same blissful nothing. Mornings brewing coffee in that well-stocked kitchen, then back to the decking with toast and more reading. A gentle wander around Lanivet's lanes for milk and pasties from the local shop—nothing strenuous, mind. Afternoons in the hot tub again, evenings curled up on the sofa picking a rom-com before tumbling into the massive king-size bed, sleeping like logs. No grand adventures to the coast or moors, though they're right there if you fancy; for us, the thrill was in the slowing down, recharging in this tranquil nook.

Packing up felt bittersweet, but driving off with batteries fully topped up? Worth every minute. If you're after a proper escape to savour the quiet joys, this is your spot.
