About St Ives
I finally made it to Carbis Bay after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive down from Bristol. Picture this: me, white-knuckling the steering wheel on those narrow Cornish lanes, with the sat-nav suddenly deciding to throw a wobbly and reroute us through some tiny village where the hedges were practically kissing the car mirrors. Then, to top it off, we had a proper comedy moment when we pulled up outside the place – I'd packed so much beach gear, cool bags stuffed with pasties and whatnot, that the boot lid popped open and unleashed an avalanche of sand buckets and inflatables right onto the pavement. A passing dog walker gave us a sympathetic grin as I scrambled to retrieve my daughter's rogue unicorn floatie. Chaos, but the kind that makes you laugh later over a cuppa.

Still, as we hauled our bags up the steps, any lingering stress melted away with those first glimpses through the door. It's this gorgeous penthouse, all light and airy, perched up high with views that hit you like a warm sea breeze. We stepped into the open-plan living space, and blimey, the sunlight was pouring in through the Velux windows and those massive French doors, turning everything golden. I could already picture lazy mornings with the coffee machine gurgling away while we nursed hangovers from too much fresh air. The handmade kitchen looked like a dream for knocking up a fry-up with local sausages or maybe some seafood from down the road – everything you need, no faffing about.

We dumped the bags and beelined for the glazed balcony, which is massive and just begging for al fresco dinners. There it was: the sea stretching out, waves crashing on the beach below, Porthkidney Sands right there within easy strolling distance. I'd been buzzing with anticipation on the journey, imagining this exact moment, but the reality? Even better. Carbis Bay felt like our own little slice of paradise, tucked away yet just a hop from the village shops for milk or a pasty from the bakery. St Ives was twinkling in the distance across the bay, promising art galleries and ice creams for tomorrow.

That first evening, we cracked open a bottle of white, lounged on the balcony watching the sun dip behind the cliffs, and I had one of those quiet reflective moments. You know, the sort where you think, 'Blimey, life's too short not to do this more often.' We'd barely unpacked, but already it felt like home – no grand plans, just the simple joy of being here with the family, mishaps forgotten. The kids were straight out on the beach, building wonky sandcastles, while I savoured the peace. If you're after a spot that's family-friendly without the hassle, this is it. Can't wait to explore more of St Ives' hidden coves and maybe that train ride along the coast, but honestly, who needs to rush when you've got views like these? Pure magic.
