About St Ives
I’ll never forget the drive down to St Ives – what should’ve been a straightforward jaunt from the M5 turned into a right old faff when we hit a massive queue on the A30. Rain lashing the windscreen, sat-nav doing its usual flip-flopping between two routes, and me arguing with my mate Dave about whether to stop for pasties or push on. In the end, we pulled over at a services for a quick coffee, only for me to spill half of it down my shirt. Classic me, arriving looking like I’d been mud-wrestling. By the time we rolled into town, hearts racing with that holiday buzz, we were proper frazzled but buzzing with anticipation. St Ives had been on my wishlist for ages – all those promises of sandy beaches and arty vibes – and as we wound down the narrow lanes, the sea finally peeking out, I could already taste the salt air.

Pulling up to the house, bang on time despite the chaos, my first thought was, “Blimey, this is spot on.” It’s this cracking holiday home, all light and airy with a flexible layout that screams versatility – perfect whether you’re a cosy couple on a romantic getaway or a big family piling in with the dog. Spacious rooms that flow just right, and the location? Absolute gold dust. Within easy walking distance of the town’s best beaches like Porthmeor and Porthminster, plus cracking restaurants and even a hop from the train station if you fancy ditching the car. We dumped the bags, cracked open a couple of tins, and just soaked it in. First impressions? Ten out of ten. The views from the windows straight out to the sea had us grinning like idiots – who needs a five-star hotel when you’ve got this?

That first afternoon, we wandered down to the beach, towels slung over shoulders, dodging the seagulls eyeing our chips. The sun broke through just as we hit the sand, and suddenly the morning’s mishaps felt like a distant memory. We mooched around the harbour, watching the fishing boats bob, then grabbed fish and chips from a spot right by the water – proper fresh, none of your greasy rubbish. Later, as the light faded, we strolled back via some of the little galleries; St Ives does that artist colony thing so well, with Turner-inspired skies everywhere you look. Sat on the terrace with a beer, feet up, I had one of those quiet moments – you know, reflecting on how we all rush about life, but holidays like this? They reset the soul. Dave caught me staring out to sea and took the mick, calling me “poet boy,” but he’s just jealous he doesn’t do introspection.

Evening rolled in with a slap-up meal at a nearby eatery – seafood linguine that was pure heaven – and we crashed out knackered but chuffed. If you’re after a base that ticks every box, from dog-friendly space for the clan to romantic nooks for two, this is it. St Ives worked its magic from minute one, turning arrival pandemonium into pure bliss. Can’t wait to go back.
