About Weymouth
I finally made it to Weymouth after what felt like the world's most faffing journey. We'd set off from Bristol bright and early, or so we thought, only for me to realise halfway down the A37 that I'd left my reading glasses behind. Typical me – dashing back home added a good half-hour, and by the time we hit the outskirts of this gorgeous seaside town, I was starving and slightly frazzled. But as we trundled along the Esplanade, with the sea sparkling under that classic Dorset sun, all was forgiven. Weymouth's golden beaches stretched out like a proper treat, and I could already picture myself parked up with a book, doing absolutely nowt but listening to the waves.

Pulling into the private drive of this cracking little L-shaped annexe, my heart did a little flip of anticipation. Tucked away quietly off the road, it looked just the ticket for a lazy staycation – single-level for easy pottering about, with French doors begging to be flung open onto its sunny courtyard garden. First impressions? Spot on. We stepped inside to an open-plan lounge with a smart TV (though who needs telly when you've got this view?), a modern kitchen kitted out with everything for a cuppa or a simple supper, and a comfy double bed with en-suite just a step away. No fuss, no faff – perfect for switching off.

From that moment, the joy was in doing bugger all, and I mean that in the best possible way. Mornings kicked off with coffee in the garden, feet up on the comfy chairs, watching bumble bees (aptly named spot, this place) buzz about while the sun warmed my face. Weymouth's just a gentle stroll or quick bus hop away, but why rush? I'd amble down to Greenhill Gardens for a bit, ears pricked for whatever free music was piping up that week, then flop on the promenade bench with a paperback, letting the shoreline's rhythm wash over me. The harbour's pubs and eateries tempted with alfresco fish and chips, or a lazy takeaway curry delivered right to the door – no cooking required.

Afternoons blurred into pure bliss in that secluded courtyard. I'd crack open a novel – finally got through that stack I'd been meaning to tackle for months – while the other half dozed in the lounger. The garden table hosted epic nothing-much lunches: cheese sarnies, a bit of fruit, maybe a cheeky GandT if the mood took us. No grand plans, just slowing right down, breathing in the salty air, and feeling the tension melt away. One evening, as the sun dipped low, painting the sky all pink and orange, I caught myself reflecting on how rare it is to just *be*. Back home, life's a whirlwind of deadlines and to-do lists; here, it was a gentle nudge that doing less is sometimes doing the most.

Even a potter along Chesil Beach nearby – that endless shingle stretch – was more dawdle than hike, picking up the odd pebble and chucking it back, grinning like a kid. No forts or castles for us; the real magic was this quiet retreat, letting Weymouth's charms seep in slow. If you're after proper downtime, this is your spot – I left feeling utterly recharged, already plotting a return for more of the same.
