About Weymouth
I’ll never forget the drive down to Weymouth – sat nav insisting we take some dodgy shortcut through the New Forest, only for us to end up behind a flock of sheep that decided to stage a sit-in right in the middle of the lane. Half an hour of gentle honking and farmer-chatting later, we were back on track, but by then I was proper knackered and starving. Still, as we rolled into town with the sun dipping over the sea, that familiar holiday buzz kicked in. Weymouth’s seafront never fails to lift the spirits, all golden sands and that classic British seaside vibe.

Pulling up to the place, I was buzzing with anticipation – what if it was a letdown after the drive? But no, first impressions were spot on. It’s this cracking first-floor apartment bang on the promenade, steps from the beach. Those massive windows flood the lounge, kitchen, and master bedroom with light, and the views over the bay are just stunning – Jurassic coastline stretching out, waves crashing gently below. Stepped into the living room and bam, proper wow moment with the sofas begging you to flop down and soak it all in. Dining area’s airy and spacious too, perfect for a lazy meal gazing at the sea, or even taking it outside on the patio if the weather plays ball.

The whole trip was about doing bugger all, and boy, did this spot deliver. No grand plans, just proper slowing down. First morning, I cracked open a book – some trashy thriller I’d been saving – and parked myself on the sofa with a cuppa, watching families paddle along the shore and Chesil Beach shimmering in the distance. The sound of the sea lapping was like white noise on steroids; I must’ve nodded off for a solid hour, book face-down on my lap. Lunch was a faff-free affair: sarnies from the Co-op, eaten alfresco on the patio with gulls squawking overhead. Hilarious watching my mate try to shoo one away – ended up sharing his crisps.

Afternoons blurred into garden lounging – well, patio really, but it felt like our own little Eden with that sea breeze. I’d wander down to the beach for a ten-minute amble, toes in the sand, then back for more reading. One evening, we cracked open a bottle of Dorset cider (local tipple, naturally), and just sat there as the sun set over Portland Bill, painting the sky all pink and orange. No rush, no itinerary – pure bliss.

Reflecting on it now, I realise how rare it is to switch off like that. Back home, life’s a whirlwind of deadlines and doom-scrolling, but those lazy days in Weymouth reminded me there’s joy in the simple stuff: a good view, a comfy spot, and the luxury of time stretching out. We did pop into town once for fish and chips from the harbour – proper fresh, wrapped in paper, eaten on a bench watching the world go by – but mostly, it was about staying put. If you’re after a holiday that’s all about recharging without the faff, this is it. Can’t wait to go back and do even less.
