About Weymouth
I finally made it to Weymouth after what felt like the world's longest drive from Bristol—complete with a cheeky diversion when the sat-nav decided to send us down a narrow lane that was basically a goat track. We arrived just as the sun was dipping low over the harbour, hearts racing with that proper holiday buzz, and honestly, the first glimpse of our ground-floor apartment had us grinning like kids. Right on the harbourside, it was the sort of spot where you step out the front door, cross the road, and bam—you're perched on the harbour wall, watching boats bob about and gulls swooping for scraps.

The place was spotless and cosy, with a spacious lounge overlooking the water and a bright open-plan kitchen-diner that screamed "cook up a storm here." That outdoor patio off the kitchen? Pure gold for al fresco noshing. Two big bedrooms meant we could crash out properly after stuffing our faces all day. But let's be real, this trip was all about the food—Weymouth's got that proper seaside grub scene, and staying so central made it dead easy to dive right in.

First night, we were starving after the faff of unpacking, so we strolled five minutes to grab traditional fish and chips from a chippy down by the harbour. Crispy batter, fat chunks of cod, mushy peas on the side—eaten straight out of the paper while watching the sunset. Heaven. Next morning, I fancied playing masterchef in that well-stocked kitchen. Nipped to the town centre market—it's just a hop from the beach, full of stalls piled high with fresh Dorset seafood, local cheeses, and veg that still had the dirt on. Grabbed some plump prawns, new potatoes, and a bunch of herbs, then had a right laugh trying to barbecue them on the patio. Mine came out a bit charred (note to self: don't get distracted by the harbour views), but slathered in garlic butter, it was still a triumph. We washed it down with a chilled white from the fridge, feet up, feeling smug.

Evenings were for harbourside pubs and Brewers Quay, that alfresco spot a quick wander away. Sipped a pint of local ale at a quay-side boozer, then demolished platters of oysters and crab claws—Weymouth does seafood like nowhere else. One night, we went posh with fine dining right on the harbour: scallops seared to perfection, followed by a massive seafood linguine. My mate Dave demolished his in record time, declaring it "better than his nan's Sunday roast." I couldn't agree more.

Tried my hand at a full English breakfast one day, sourcing bacon and eggs from the market—proper free-range, none of that rubbery stuff. Fried it up in the kitchen while the kettle boiled for a builder's brew. Laughed at myself, though, when I realised I'd overdone the black pudding and turned it into hockey pucks. Still, sat on the patio munching with the harbour buzzing below, it was the perfect moment for a bit of reflection. Holidays like this remind you life's too short not to chase the good eats and simple joys—nothing beats cooking dodgy meals with mates and pretending you're Gordon Ramsay.

By the end of the week, we'd hit every chippy, pub, and market stall within walking distance, bellies full and not a regret in sight. Weymouth's foodie harbour life? Absolute winner. Can't wait to go back.
