About Weymouth
I’ll never forget the drive down to Weymouth – what should’ve been a straightforward motorway jaunt from the Midlands turned into a right old faff when we hit roadworks just past Southampton. The satnav kept rerouting us through sleepy villages, and by the time we were crawling along the A354, tempers were fraying. The kids were bickering in the back over who got the last Haribo, and I’d spilt my thermos of tea all over the passenger seat mat – classic me, always juggling too much. But as we crested that final hill and Weymouth Harbour came into view, all that chaos melted away. The sun was dipping low over the water, glinting off the colourful boats in the marina, and suddenly I was grinning like an idiot. “This is it,” I thought, “proper holiday vibes incoming.”

We finally pulled up to the harbourside development, hearts racing with that buzz of arrival anticipation – you know, when everything feels full of promise? Parking was a nightmare, mind you; I had to do three-point turns in a spot meant for a Smart car, drawing tuts from a couple of locals strolling by with their ice creams. But once we’d wrestled the suitcases out and buzzed ourselves in, the lift whisked us up to the third floor like a reward for our troubles. Stepping into this immaculate penthouse was pure magic – plush, modern, with those captivating views over the marina right there through the big windows. It’s the kind of place that screams “relax” from the off: sleek kitchen for knocking up brekkies, comfy sofas begging for a collapse, and balconies where you can sip a cuppa watching the world go by.

First impressions? Blown away. We dumped the bags and beelined for the windows – the harbour was alive with yachts bobbing gently, fishing boats chugging in, and families ambling along the esplanade. Weymouth’s got that effortless charm, doesn’t it? Just a stone’s throw from sandy beaches and all the family-friendly spots like Nothe Fort or Sea Life, but up here you feel tucked away in your own tranquil haven. The kids were straight out on the balcony, spotting seals (or were they just buoys? Who knows), while I cracked open a bottle of fizz we’d stashed in the cool bag. That first evening, we wandered down to the harbour for fish and chips from one of the huts – crispy cod, mushy peas, the works – eaten on benches with the sea breeze ruffling our hair. Laughter echoed everywhere, and I caught myself thinking, “Blimey, after that mad drive, this is worth every detour.”

There was a gentle moment later, as the sun set in a blaze of orange over Portland Bill, when I plonked down on the sofa with a sigh. Holidays like this make you reflect, don’t they? I’m usually rushing about at home, head in a spin, but staring out at those twinkling marina lights, I felt properly present. No emails, no deadlines – just us, this cracking penthouse, and Weymouth’s Jurassic coastline calling for tomorrow’s adventures. Rambling along Chesil Beach, maybe, or building sandcastles on the main beach. The mishaps of arrival faded fast; this place has that knack for resetting you. If you’re after a harbourside gem that ticks every box for families, walkers, or just beach bums like me, you won’t be disappointed. Here’s to more of the same – chaos and all.
