About Weymouth
I finally made it to Weymouth after what felt like the longest drive from Bristol, thanks to a cheeky little mishap on the A35 – some numpty in a caravan decided to hog the middle lane just as the sun dipped low, turning a two-hour trip into three. Still, as I crested the hill and spotted the harbour glittering below, all that frustration melted away. There it was, that classic Dorset seaside buzz, and I couldn't wait to settle into my third-floor apartment perched right above the water.

Pulling up, I was chuffed to bits with the first impressions. The place is a proper gem for two – think beautifully fitted double bedroom, a roomy living area spilling out onto a balcony with killer views over the harbour, and everything you need without a fuss. It's got that easy, romantic vibe, close enough to pop out for a pint or fish and chips but far enough from the Nothe Fort crowds to feel like your own little hideaway. I dumped my bags, cracked open a cold one from the fridge, and just stood there breathing in the salty air. Pure bliss.

The joy of this holiday? Doing sod all, really. After years of rushing about like a headless chicken at work, it was time to switch off proper. Mornings started lazy: I'd brew a coffee in the smart little kitchen, slide open the balcony doors, and flop into one of those cushy chairs with a book. Weymouth's harbour was my telly – watching the fishing boats chug out, seals bobbing about, and families strolling the esplanade. No agenda, no alarms. One day I managed a gentle wander to the beach, just 10 minutes down the hill, dipped my toes in the shallows, then back for lunch at the dining table overlooking it all. Cheese toastie and a GandT, sorted.

Afternoons were for the garden – well, the communal one below the property, lush and tucked away from the harbour hustle. I'd take my paperback (some cracking crime thriller), find a sunny spot under the trees, and lose hours. The sea breeze rustling the leaves, distant cries of gulls – it was like the world hit pause. I even had a giggle at myself, nodding off mid-chapter with my book on my chest, waking up to find a ladybird had hitched a ride on my knee. "You're on holiday, mate," I thought, "embrace the sloth."

Evenings? Pamper central. I'd rustle up something simple – pasta with pesto from the nearby Tesco Express – light some candles, pop a bottle of fizz on the balcony, and let the sunset paint the water pink. Then snuggle on the sofa with Netflix, doors flung wide for that fresh sea waft, before a hot shower and bed. Sleep was epic, lulled by the gentle harbour hum.

Looking back, it was the slowing down that hit home. In our mad lives, we forget how good it feels to just be. Weymouth worked its magic – no grand adventures needed. If you're after a spot to recharge with your other half, this is it. Can't recommend enough.
