About Wiltshire
Pulling up to this contemporary apartment, nestled among a cluster of similar spots with that clean Scandinavian vibe – all light woods and airy lines – I felt that proper holiday buzz kick in. The rural spot is pure bliss, tucked away in lush Wiltshire countryside but sneaky handy for everything. First impressions? Spot on. The place looked even better than the pics: welcoming terrace with views over rolling fields, and that sense of calm you crave after a long week. We tumbled out of the car, dripping and laughing, and the host greeted us with a cheery wave and a pot of tea brewing – total legend move. Unpacking was a faff with wet boots everywhere, but stepping inside? Magic. Spacious, modern kitchen for knocking up brekkies, comfy sofas begging for a collapse, and bedrooms that just said ‘sleep like a log’. The kids (well, my inner child included) were straight out exploring the grounds, while I snuck a peek at the on-site restaurant menu – proper home-cooked grub like shepherd’s pie that had my stomach rumbling already. It’s the sort of setup that’s perfect for unwinding or using as a launchpad for day trips without the hassle. That first afternoon, we nipped into Warminster, just a quick hop for supplies – grabbed some local cheeses and a bottle of something bubbly from the market. Spotted one of those iconic white horses etched into the hillside on the way back; it’s daft how something so simple lifts the spirits. The anticipation on the drive had me picturing non-stop rain and regrets, but nah – this peaceful pocket felt like home from the off. Made me reflect a bit, you know? We’re all rushing about so much; sometimes a soggy arrival and a cracking apartment are just what’s needed to hit reset. No grand adventures yet, but already plotting a mooch to Frome tomorrow – those medieval streets and indie shops sound right up my street, only four miles away. Longleat’s tempting too, same distance, for a safari thrill if the weather holds. For now, though, we’re kicking back with fish and chips from the restaurant, watching the sunset paint the hills. If you’re after a base that’s equal parts serene and sorted, this Wiltshire gem’s got it in spades. Can’t wait for day two – mishaps and all, it’s shaping up to be a belter. |
