About Wiltshire
Pulling up to the glade near Salisbury, the first impressions were pure magic. There it was, this gorgeous safari tent pitched in a whisper-quiet spot, all canvas curves and wooden decking with a cosy vibe that screamed adventure without the hassle. We tumbled out, dogs going mental with excitement, and within minutes, we were sorted – beds made up snug, a little kitchenette ready for tea-making duties, and that wood-fired hot tub bubbling away like it knew we needed it after the sheep saga. First morning, we wandered hand-in-hand to the on-site café just down the path – nothing fancy, but their bacon butties and fresh coffee hit the spot while the dogs chased butterflies. It felt like slipping into a slower rhythm straight away. Afternoons were for lazy loops around the nearby woods, picking blackberries and dodging the odd cowpat (note to self: better shoe choices next time). We’d flop back for barbecues on the deck, flames crackling as the sun dipped low, sipping wine and chatting about nothing much. One evening, the hot tub became our personal spa – stars overhead, steam rising, and the dogs sprawled out like they owned the place. Pure bliss, that. Of course, cottage life isn’t all Instagram-perfect. The dogs thought the tent was their personal bouncy castle, zooming in and out at dawn, and I managed to set off the smoke alarm with my “master chef” attempt at sausages. Laughing about it over breakfast, I had one of those quiet moments – you know, realising how these simple daft bits, the shared giggles and muddy paws, are what make a break truly recharge you. No screens, no rush, just us being us. We popped over to Salisbury’s close-by water meadows for a gentle stroll along the river, watching swans glide by and spotting kingfishers darting about. Old Sarum’s ruins were a short hop too – clambering up those hills for epic views, feeling like proper explorers without the crowds. Back at base, evenings melted into board games by fairy lights, the tent glowing warm against the cool night air. Packing up felt bittersweet, but Wiltshire’s got that pull – we’re already plotting a return. If you’re after a relaxed couple’s escape with a dash of family pet pandemonium, this is your spot. Simple pleasures, total unwind. What a tonic. |
