About Shropshire
I finally made it to Shropshire after what felt like the world's most scenic detour. I'd been buzzing with that holiday anticipation all morning—visions of rolling hills and a proper escape from the daily grind—but then my sat-nav decided to have a mid-journey identity crisis. It sent me down a narrow lane that was more tractor track than road, complete with a sudden face-off with a sheep who looked at me like I'd personally offended its flock. A quick three-point turn (more like five) later, and I was back on track, chuckling at my own daftness as the countryside opened up.

Pulling up to the place near Weston-under-Redcastle, about a mile and a half away, I had one of those 'this is perfect' moments. It's this cosy barn conversion, all welcoming and tucked away just right, with the kind of charm that makes you exhale and think, yeah, this'll do nicely. First impressions? Spot on. The garden stretched out like an invitation to nowhere, bordered by hedges buzzing with bees, and that fresh Shropshire air hit you straight away.

From there, the whole stay was about embracing the joy of doing sod all—and I mean that in the best possible way. No grand plans, no ticking off lists of must-sees. Just lazy cottage days that melted into one another. I'd potter out to the garden first thing, mug of tea in hand, settling into a lounger with a book I'd been meaning to crack open for months. The sun filtered through the leaves, birds cheeping away, and I'd lose hours to a cracking thriller or some mindless magazine, only pausing to brew another cuppa. Lunch? Whatever was in the fridge, eaten al fresco while watching clouds drift over the fields. It was blissfully uneventful.

Afternoons blurred into dozing under the parasol or wandering the garden paths at snail's pace, picking a few berries or just breathing it all in. One day, I even managed a cheeky nap in the hammock—woke up with a start thinking I'd missed supper, only to find it was barely 3pm. Proper holiday magic, that. Evenings were for lighting the barbecue (badly at first, mind—I'm no chef), grilling sausages and veg while the sky turned that deep pink over the hills. Sat there with a cold beer, feet up, reflecting on how I'd let work stress me out back home. Silly, really. Out here, time slows right down, and you realise doing nothing is the point. It's restorative, like hitting reset on your soul.

Shropshire's got that gentle pull—close enough to Shrewsbury for a supply run if needed, but why bother when the garden's your world? I left feeling lighter, already plotting a return. If you're after proper downtime, this is it. Slow living at its finest.
