About Shropshire
I finally made it to Shropshire after what felt like the scenic route from hell—well, not hell, but definitely a detour involving a cheeky sat-nav that decided to send me down a single-track lane behind a tractor doing 5mph. Picture me, kettle drum solo on the steering wheel, muttering to myself about why I didn't just stick to the A roads. But as Oswestry's rolling hills came into view, that little mishap melted away. I was buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation, you know? Windows down, radio on, thinking this was going to be just the ticket.

Pulling up to the cottage, I was chuffed to bits. It's one of those classic Shropshire holiday lets—a cosy detached number with a welcoming vibe, all low doorways and that lived-in charm that makes you feel at home straight off. The garden hit me first: wildflower borders framing a lush lawn, with birds flitting about like they owned the place. I dumped my bags, cracked open a brew, and just... exhaled. After months of rushing about back home, this was my cue to switch off.

The joy of it all was doing sod all, really. Proper lazy cottage days, the kind where time stretches out like warm toffee. Mornings started late, with coffee on a garden chair, feet up, watching the clouds scoot over the hills. I'd potter about the borders for five minutes—deadheading a rose or two—then flop back down with a book. Picked up this battered copy of a Philip Pullman novel I'd been meaning to reread; lost hours in those pages, only breaking for a biscuit raid. The garden was my playground without the effort: a hammock slung between apple trees for afternoon snoozes, or sprawling on a blanket with a picnic of cheese, crackers, and whatever was in the fridge. No grand plans, just the rustle of leaves and the odd bee buzzing by.

One afternoon, I wandered all of 50 yards to a nearby footpath—nothing strenuous, mind, just enough to stretch the legs and breathe in that fresh countryside air. Back for tea on the patio: homemade scones (store-bought jam, let's be honest), and the sun dipping low, painting everything golden. Evenings were pure bliss—fire crackling if it turned chilly, feet curled under me on the sofa, another chapter or two before nodding off early. No screens, no deadlines, just me and the quiet.

It got me reflecting, sat there one dusk with a GandT in hand. Life's so frantic usually—emails piling up, to-do lists longer than my arm. Here, slowing down felt revolutionary. I caught myself smiling at nothing much, feeling properly recharged without achieving a thing. Who knew the best holiday was the one where you barely leave the garden? If you're after that rare treat of proper relaxation, Shropshire's got it in spades. Can't wait to go back and do even less.
