About Scarborough
I’ll never forget the drive up to Scarborough – a proper Yorkshire jaunt that started with me taking a wrong turn near York, ending up in some winding lane with sheep eyeballing me like I’d gatecrashed their picnic. Laughing it off, we recalibrated the satnav and arrived just as the sun dipped towards the sea, hearts lifting at the sight of the coast. That anticipation bubbled up – you know, that fizz of wondering if the place will live up to the pics? It did, and then some.

Pulling up to this charming two-bed apartment, right in the thick of Scarborough’s lively vibe, we were smitten from the off. It’s the sort of spot that sleeps four cosily – perfect for our little gang – with a nod to those grand Victorian days in its style. Stepping inside felt like slipping into a hug: light and airy, with everything you need without any faff. But the real star? That balcony overlooking the sea. We dumped the bags and cracked open a bottle of white before we’d even unpacked.

From there, it was all about doing bugger all – and I mean that in the best way. Scarborough’s got its bustle, sure, with the beach just a hop away, but we barely scratched the surface. Mornings kicked off lazy in the garden area, me sprawled on a lounger with a pot of tea and a dog-eared paperback, the North Sea breeze flipping the pages. No rush, no plans – just the joy of watching gulls wheel about and waves crash in the distance. Lunch was a wander to South Beach for a paddle in the bracing sea (brr, but invigorating!), followed by the crispiest fish and chips from a chippy that’s been frying since my gran’s day. Heaven on a paper wrapper.

Afternoons melted into more of the same: back on the balcony with a cool GandT, feet up, letting the world slow to a drip. I’d read a chapter, nod off for twenty minutes, wake to repeat. One evening, as the sun painted the horizon pink, I caught myself reflecting – when did life get so frantic? Here, with mates nattering softly and the sea symphony below, it was a gentle nudge to just be. No epic hikes (though the castle’s silhouette tempted), no manic itineraries. Just lazy days reclaiming that lost art of pottering.

Evenings wrapped up cosied in, sharing stories over supermarket curry, balcony doors flung wide to catch the salt air. Scarborough’s magic isn’t in ticking boxes; it’s in this unhurried rhythm, where doing very little feels like the point. We left fatter in the soul, already plotting a return. If you fancy switching off proper, this is your spot.
