About Scarborough
I finally made it to Scarborough after a bit of a faff on the drive down from Leeds. The satnav decided to play silly buggers just outside Whitby, sending us on a detour through some narrow lanes that had me white-knuckling the wheel while my other half laughed and snapped pics of the sheep staring us down. But honestly, by the time we crested that hill and caught our first proper glimpse of the sea, all was forgiven. The anticipation bubbled up – you know that fizzy excitement of arriving somewhere new, wondering what lazy delights await?

Pulling into the designated parking spot right by this cracking duplex apartment near the beach, we were chuffed to bits. It's got that perfect seaside vibe for a couple like us, all cosy and unpretentious, just a stone's throw from the coastline. Stepping inside, we were hit with this lovely open-plan space that instantly felt like home. The kitchen area's kitted out with everything you could need to rustle up a brew or a simple supper, and there's a snug dining spot to perch at while plotting (or not plotting) the day ahead. First impressions? Spot on – bright, welcoming, and screaming "put your feet up".

We'd booked this little escape precisely to do bugger all, and boy, did we nail it. No grand itineraries, no ticking off tourist traps like the Castle or Valley Gardens (though they're right there if you fancy a gentle wander). Instead, it was all about sinking into that glorious slowness Scarborough does so well. Mornings kicked off with coffee on the balcony, listening to the waves crash and gulls squawk – proper symphony, that. I'd flop into a chair with a dog-eared paperback (currently devouring some P.G. Wodehouse for the giggles), while she fiddled with her sketchbook, capturing the horizon in lazy strokes.

The garden area out back became our private paradise. Nothing fancy, just a patch of green with a couple of loungers, sheltered enough to dodge the odd Yorkshire shower. We'd spend hours there, me dozing off mid-chapter, her pottering with a bit of weeding or just staring out to sea. Lunches were picnic-style – cheese sarnies from the Co-op down the road, devoured al fresco with a chilled white from the fridge. Afternoons blurred into siestas, broken only by a saunter to the beach for a paddle in the North Sea (bracing, but brilliant). Evenings? Cosy dinners in, maybe fish and chips delivered if we couldn't be arsed cooking, followed by telly or more reading till our eyes drooped.

There was this one moment, lounging in the garden as the sun dipped low, pint of tea in hand, when I caught myself reflecting. Life back home's a right whirlwind – deadlines, emails, the lot. Here, achieving nowt felt like the ultimate win. No guilt, just pure, unadulterated chill. We slowed right down, recharging in that effortless way only a seaside bolt-hole can manage. Scarborough's got that magic for folk craving a breather, and this spot nailed it. Can't wait to go back and do even less.
