About Scarborough
I finally made it to Scarborough after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive up from Leeds. Picture this: me, sat-nav in one hand, a lukewarm coffee spilling everywhere because some numpty in a white van decided to cut me off on the A64. By the time I hit the outskirts, my trousers were a Jackson Pollock of latte stains, and I was muttering about how holidays shouldn't start with a laundry crisis. But hey, that's Yorkshire for you – never a dull moment.

Pulling into the narrow side lane off the main drag in the town centre, I was buzzing with that proper anticipation. Scarborough's got that magic pull, doesn't it? The sea air hitting you as you wind down the window, the distant crash of waves from South Bay, and the thought of fish and chips waiting. I parked up (after a three-point turn that nearly took out a seagull), grabbed my bags, and eyed the flight of private stairs leading up to this cracking second-floor apartment above the owner's picture gallery. Heart of the action, amenities on the doorstep – perfect for me and the missus, who was trailing behind with the cooler bag.

Pushing open the door, I was hit with the most welcoming glow. Sunlight poured through those massive windows into the bright, open-plan living area, turning the whole place into a proper suntrap. I flopped straight onto that huge corner sofa – comfy as owt, the kind that makes you go "ahh" and forget the drive. It felt warm and lived-in, not some sterile hotel vibe. Kitchen off to the side was kitted out nicely too, with everything you'd need for a fry-up or a late-night brew.

First impressions? Spot on. We dumped the bags and legged it out for a wander – five minutes and we're on the promenade, peering at the donkeys on the beach (none queuing up, mind, it was a quiet Tuesday). Grabbed chips from that famous place near the clock tower, salty and vinegary perfection, eaten on a bench watching families build sandcastles. Laughed about my coffee catastrophe over a pint in a cosy pub tucked away on Foyle Road – proper local, with locals who ribbed me gently about my Scouse accent (cheeky sods).

That evening, back in the apartment, sinking into the sofa with the windows cracked open to the sound of the sea and faint buskers on the street below, I had one of those moments. You know, where you think, "Blimey, life's too short not to do this more often." Work's been mad, rushing about like a headless chicken, but here? Pure bliss. No signal stress, just us, the coast, and plans for tomorrow's Valley Gardens stroll and maybe a dip in the North Bay paddling pool if the sun holds.

Scarborough's got me hooked again. If you're after a seaside bolt-hole that's central, sunny, and screams relaxation, this is it. Can't wait to return – stains and all.
