About Scarborough
I’ll never forget the drive up to Scarborough – we’d piled the car high with kids’ beach toys, snacks, and enough crisps to siege a castle, only for the sat-nav to chuck us into a cheeky diversion right at the edge of town. Picture it: me white-knuckling the wheel as a flock of seagulls dive-bombed the windscreen, courtesy of some spilled fish and chips from the services. The littlest one’s wailing about needing a wee, and I’m thinking, “This is holiday joy, right here.” But as we rounded the corner into the heart of Scarborough, the salty sea air hit us like a tonic, and suddenly it was all worth it. Hearts lifted, we spotted the car park just a short stroll away – free parking in peak season, no less. Result!

Climbing those stairs to our second-floor apartment felt like the grand reveal in a proper seaside adventure. It’s this charming spot in a Grade II listed building, spread over two floors, perfect for our tribe of six (with room to spare if we’d dragged more cousins along). Stepping inside, I was chuffed to bits – nautical vibes everywhere, from the cosy blues and whites to little touches that scream Scarborough by the sea. The seafront’s a mere 300-metre hop away, so first impressions? Spot on. We dumped the bags and straight into the spacious sitting room, firing up the Smart TV for a Netflix binge of some daft family flick. Proper snuggling ensued, with popcorn flying like confetti.

The next few days blurred into that glorious cottage chaos you crave on a family break. Mornings kicked off with brekkie in the well-kitted kitchen – think bacon butties and endless brews while the kids raided the cupboards for cereal. Then it was beach time at South Bay, building wonky sandcastles and dodging the waves, the kids shrieking with delight as the North Sea nipped at their toes. We wandered the harbour, snaffling fresh crab sandwiches from the stalls – messy, brilliant, and half of ’em ended up on our shirts anyway. Afternoons meant a gentle mooch up to Scarborough Castle, puffing up the hill for those epic views over the bay, wind whipping our hair into comedy fright wigs.

Evenings were pure bliss: fish and chips delivered (lazy win), board games that descended into giggles and mild cheating accusations, and collapsing in a heap for more telly. One night, the heavens opened, turning our grand plans for crazy golf at Peasholm Park into an indoor fort-building marathon with sofa cushions. Chaos, but the good kind – the sort that reminds you why you do these trips.

Looking back, sat here with a cuppa, I reckon that’s the magic of a Scarborough stay like this. No fancy bells, just simple seaside pleasures amid the joyful pandemonium of family life. We left sunburnt, sandy, and utterly recharged – already plotting the next one. If you’re after that vibe, pack your wellies and dive in.
