About Scarborough
I finally made it to Scarborough after what felt like the world's most chaotic drive up from Leeds. Picture this: me, my other half Sarah, and our two lads, Tom and Jack, crammed into the car with suitcases teetering like a game of Tetris gone wrong. We'd set off full of beans, playlist blasting some classic Oasis, but then came the mishap – a massive lorry jackknifed on the A64, turning our two-hour jaunt into a four-hour crawl. By the time we hit Scarborough's outskirts, the kids were bickering over the last Haribo, Sarah was eyeing me like I'd personally caused the traffic, and I was sweating through my best "holiday dad" T-shirt. "This better be worth it," I muttered, as we navigated the narrow streets towards Weydale Avenue.

Anticipation had been building all week – visions of crashing waves, chippy teas, and proper seaside downtime. But pulling up outside this charming second-floor apartment right in the heart of it all? Blimey, first impressions were spot on. It's just a stone's throw from a decent shop for milk runs, the nearest pub for a cheeky pint, and the beach – you can practically smell the sea salt from the doorstep. We hauled our luggage up the stairs (note to self: pack lighter next time), hearts racing a bit from the climb after that drive, and crossed the threshold into pure holiday bliss.

The open-plan living space hit us like a warm hug – that sumptuous sofa begging for a collapse, with a Smart TV opposite for some family movie nights once we'd shaken off the road dust. Kitchen's kitted out proper, with all the gadgets you need to rustle up brekkie or a full Yorkshire fry-up, and the dining table's right there for lingering over meals. We dumped our bags and headed straight for the bedrooms: the master with its en-suite shower and comfy double bed felt like luxury after the car seat squash, then there's another double and a single for the lads – plenty of space for us lot without elbows in faces.

That first evening, after a quick freshen-up in the bathroom (bath or shower, your call – I went shower, steaming away the traffic fumes), we wandered down to the beach. Scarborough's South Bay was alive with donkey rides, arcade lights flickering on, and the tide rolling in just right. Grabbed fish and chips from a proper seafront spot, wrapped in paper, vinegar dripping – heaven. Sat on the pebbles munching, watching families like ours larking about, and I had one of those gentle moments: life's too short for traffic jams and squabbles; this is what it's about, innit? Simple joys, recharging by the coast.

Next morning, we hit the promenade, nipped into a café for bacon butties, and explored the harbour – seals barking, boats chugging out. The apartment welcomed us back each time like an old mate, sofa calling for footie on the telly. No grand adventures needed; this spot's got everything for a cracking Scarborough getaway. If you're after that cosy escape, you won't go far wrong here. Can't wait to return – minus the lorry drama, hopefully.
