About Scarborough
I finally made it to Scarborough after a bit of a faff on the journey up from Leeds. I'd taken the train to save the hassle of driving, but somewhere between York and here, I managed to leave my favourite book on the seat—classic me, always one step behind my own brain. Still, pulling into the station with that salty sea air hitting me straight away, I was buzzing with anticipation. A quick wander down the road, bags in tow, and there it was: this cracking Victorian three-storey holiday home right in the heart of the town. Off-road parking made unloading a doddle, and stepping into the bright, airy hallway felt like the perfect welcome mat to proper holiday mode.

From that moment, it was all about switching off and doing bugger all—exactly what I needed after months of rushing about. The place had loads of social space, but for me, it was the garden that stole the show. Tucked away at the back, it was a suntrap with that stunning custom-made hot tub bubbling away invitingly. First afternoon, I cracked open a GandT, slipped into the warm water, and just let the world fade. No itinerary, no alarms—just the gentle lap of water and the distant cry of gulls from the beach, which was only a short stroll away if I fancied it.

Lazy days blurred into one another like that. Mornings started slow with a brew on the go, lounging in the garden with a dog-eared paperback—thank goodness I'd grabbed a cheap thriller from the station shop to replace my lost one. I'd read a chapter, nod off under the parasol, then wake up for a dip in the tub. Lunch was whatever was knocking about: cheese on toast, maybe some local crab from the harbour if I felt energetic enough for a ten-minute amble. Afternoons? More reading, feet up, watching the sky shift from Yorkshire grey to rare blue. Evenings meant firing up the barbecue in the garden (weather permitting), or just chilling indoors with a film, the house's cosy nooks perfect for solo sprawl.

There was this one moment, floating in the hot tub as the sun dipped behind the cliffs, when it hit me: how often do we pack our lives so full we forget to breathe? I'd come here half-expecting to tick off the castle or a donkey ride on South Bay, but honestly, the joy was in the nothing. No pressure to explore Peasholm Park or the Spa—though they're right there if you want 'em—just pure, unadulterated slowing down. A gentle nudge to myself: life's too short not to savour these pockets of peace.

By the end of the week, I felt human again, recharged without lifting a finger. If you're after a spot in Scarborough to truly unwind, this is it—beach, station, and shops all close by, but the real magic's in mastering the art of bugger all. Can't wait to go back.
