About Scarborough
Me and the missus had been counting down the days to our Scarborough getaway, dreaming of salty sea air and proper downtime after a mad year at work. The drive up from Leeds was meant to be a breeze, but wouldn't you know it, we hit a massive tailback just past York—some daft caravan towing a boat that decided to play dodgem cars on the A64. I was gripping the wheel like it owed me money, but we laughed it off with a shared bag of pork scratchings and a podcast about seaside ghost stories. By the time we rolled into Scarborough, the sun was dipping low over the bay, and that first glimpse of the cliffs had us grinning like kids.

Pulling up to this cracking four-storey house, right in the thick of it all, we felt that proper holiday buzz. Stone's throw from the beach and a wander from the town centre's chip shops and pubs—perfect for us lot seeking a chilled-out couple's break with a side of family vibes. Stepping inside was like being hugged by a mate's nan: spacious, airy rooms that screamed home-from-home. The ground floor kitchen had this beast of a Range cooker that had me channeling my inner MasterChef straight away, while the dining table begged for lazy suppers. We dumped the bags and beelined for the hot tub out back—bliss after that drive, bubbles and a cheeky GandT watching the seagulls squabble.

First morning, we mooched down to the pristine beach, toes in the sand, building the world's wonkiest sandcastle that promptly got flattened by a cheeky wave. Proper cottage life chaos ensued when I tried rustling up a full English—bacon everywhere, and the missus batting me out the way to save the sausages from my amateur fumbling. We retreated to the family sitting room with its Smart TV for a bit of Corrie catch-up, then flopped into the lower-ground floor lounge for card games that turned into daft storytelling sessions. Upstairs, the bedrooms were spot on—cosy without being poky, and those bathrooms meant no queueing for a shower.

Venturing out was all about the simple stuff: a stroll along the Cleveland Way with fish and chips wrapped in paper, wind whipping our faces as we watched boats bob in the bay. We hit the North Bay Railway for a nostalgic putter along the coast—me feeling like a big kid, her snapping pics like a pro. Scarborough Castle loomed up the hill, so we puffed our way up for panoramic views that knocked the socks off any postcard. Evenings were pure gold: cooking up a storm in that kitchen, then hot tub under the stars, reflecting on how we'd let work stress fade like sea mist. Me? I caught myself thinking, life's too short not to chase these moments—us two, a bit of seaside madness, and no agenda beyond the next cuppa.

Days blurred into beach walks, cream teas in town, and one hilarious attempt at kayaking that left us soaked and cackling. This place nailed that relaxed family-couple escape: ample space for us to breathe, close enough to amenities for impromptu pints, yet tucked away for proper unwinding. Scarborough's got that magic—charming, unpretentious, and full of little joys. Can't wait to go back.
