About Cork
Pulling up to the cottage, though, all that melted away. Nestled quietly on a 17-acre beef farm, it was just the ticket for us two – cosy, unpretentious, with two peaceful bedrooms that promised proper shut-eye. The first impressions? Magic. Those gardens stretched out like an invitation to do absolutely nothing but flop, and the views over Kenmare Bay and the Caha Mountains hit you right in the chest. We arrived mid-afternoon, suitcases dumped, and cracked open a couple of cold ones on the patio, watching the light dance on the water. Pure bliss after the road farce. We kept things dead simple, which is the whole point of a break like this. Mornings kicked off with lazy brews on the patio, listening to the farm sounds – cows lowing in the distance, birds doing their thing. One day we wandered the gardens, picking at wildflowers and pretending we knew what they were, then fired up the BBQ for lunch. Sausages sizzling, a bit of char on the buns because I’m no chef, and that sea breeze keeping it all fresh. Laughter erupted when I nearly set the tongs on fire – cottage life chaos at its finest, but the kind that bonds you closer. Afternoons were for gentle potterings. A short hop to Ardgroom, just 2.5 miles away, for a pint and a bowl of chowder at the local pub – nothing fancy, just warm chats with folks who’d nod knowingly at your “English” accent. Back home, we’d stretch out with books or a cheeky nap, the mountains turning golden as the sun dipped. Evenings? Cosy dinners inside when the chill crept in, or more patio time if the weather played ball, feet up, sharing daft dreams about ditching it all for farm life. Ha, as if – I’d last a week before craving my Deliveroo. Looking back, it was those tiny moments that stuck – the quiet realisation, mid-sunset sip, that we don’t need grand adventures to recharge. Just each other, a cracking view, and the gentle hum of Irish countryside. We left feeling lighter, already plotting a return. If you’re after a relaxed couples’ reset amid Cork’s beauty, this is your spot. Simple pleasures, zero regrets. |
