About Cork
From that moment, we decided: no grand plans, no hiking marathons. This was about doing sod all, and loving every minute. We’d flop into the garden first thing, mugs of tea in hand, watching mist roll off the hills while the dog chased butterflies. The garden’s a beaut – wildflowers nodding in the breeze, a couple of weathered benches begging you to linger. I’d crack open a book (finally got through that pile I’d been lugging around for years), feet up on a rug, as the sun filtered through. Lazy lunches stretched into afternoons: cheese, fresh soda bread from the village shop, and whatever we rustled up from the basics. No rush, no schedules – just the joy of time stretching out like the views. One morning, I caught myself staring at a cloud shaped like a sheep (fitting, eh?), and had a proper think. Back home, life’s a whirlwind – deadlines, emails, the lot. Here? It was like hitting pause. Gentle self-reflection hit me: I’m rubbish at slowing down usually, always chasing the next thing. But in that bungalow, with its warm, welcoming feel after a day of precisely nowt, I realised doing very little is the real luxury. We’d potter to the beach at close-by Coulagh Bay maybe once, toes in the sand, skim stones, then back for naps on the sofa, rain pattering the windows. Evenings were pure bliss: board games by the fire (fake one, but cosy as), a glass of wine, sharing daft stories till yawns took over. The kids – well, young adults now – sprawled reading or sketching the peninsula’s drama. No screens, no distractions. Our pup curled up everywhere, snoring contentedly. By the end of the week, we were all recharged, softer around the edges. If you’re after wild beauty without the wild rush, this corner of Cork’s your spot. We left promising to return, already dreaming of more nothing days. Pure magic. |
