About Cork
Stepping out, the first impressions hit like a warm hug. There it was, this superb detached modern holiday property perched on the edge of the pretty coastal village of Ahakista, just 10 miles from Bantry. Immaculately presented, it looked every bit the inviting haven we’d dreamed of – sleek lines blending seamlessly with the wild West Cork landscape, sea views peeking from the front windows like a promise of lazy mornings. We fumbled the keys (another mishap – I’d packed them in the bottom of a bag under soggy wellies), but once inside, all the arrival chaos melted away. The place was spot-on for our group of six: quality furnishings everywhere, nothing fussy, just comfortable and welcoming. We dumped the bags and made a beeline for the kitchen – modern, gleaming, and kitted out with every gadget you could want. I rustled up some tea while the others claimed bedrooms, the front ones scoring those outstanding sea and mountain views that had us cooing like excited kids. “This is lush,” my mate declared, flopping onto one of the beds. Downstairs, the spacious sitting room sealed the deal: cosy open fire ready to crackle, perfect for curling up after a day out. We lit it straight away, the flames chasing off the day’s damp chill. That first evening, we wandered down to Ahakista’s tiny harbour, just a stroll away, watching fishing boats bob and seals popping up cheekily in the bay. Picked up fresh seafood from a local van – simple as that, pan-fried with spuds from the village shop. Sat by the fire later, sipping Guinness, we laughed about the sat-nav debacle. “Classic us,” I chuckled, staring into the flames. It got me reflecting, you know? Life’s full of those little scrapes – wrong turns, scrapes on the car – but they make the good bits shine brighter. This place, with its quiet magic and effortless comfort, was exactly what we needed to recharge. If you’re after a proper getaway in Cork, hunt down something like this. You won’t regret it. |
