About Galway
Finally spotting the place, my heart lifted – there it was, perched in this fantastic spot overlooking the Atlantic, on the edge of Clifden. The anticipation had been building all week, scrolling through photos of those sea views, and the first impressions didn’t disappoint. Pulling up, we were greeted by this lovely detached bungalow, all welcoming and cosy, with a fenced patio complete with furniture angled just right to soak in the spectacular ocean vista. It felt like we’d stumbled into our own little slice of Irish paradise, the kind of spot where worries melt away faster than ice cream on a sunny day. We tumbled inside, bags everywhere, and straight away headed to the fully-equipped kitchen – a godsend after our road woes. I rustled up some cheese toasties while everyone unpacked, and within minutes we were dining together at the table, the kids already plotting their next adventure. Stepping out onto the patio with glasses of wine in hand (non-alcoholic squash for the little ones), we cheered to the trip as the sun dipped towards the waves. The backdrop was mesmerising – that endless Atlantic stretch, with gulls wheeling overhead. It was one of those moments that makes you pause and think, isn’t life grand when you strip it back to simple joys like this? The next morning, still riding high on those first impressions, we wandered into Clifden, just a short hop away. Popped into the market for fresh scones and did the usual mooch around the quirky shops – I snaffled a woolly hat I didn’t need but couldn’t resist. Later, we drove the five minutes to the stunning Sky Road, parking up for a breezy walk with views that had us all grinning like idiots. The kids dashed about, spotting seals bobbing in the bay, while we adults pretended we weren’t knackered from the previous day’s chaos. Evenings were pure bliss: barbecues on the patio, watching the sunset paint the sea in pinks and golds, sharing stories till it got too chilly. Looking back, that messy arrival was the perfect icebreaker – it reminded me not to take holidays too seriously. This bungalow, with its three comfy bedrooms and that unbeatable location, turned what could’ve been a stressful start into the holiday highlight. If you’re after a family getaway in County Galway, with sea views and easy access to Connemara’s gems, you can’t go wrong here. We left with full hearts and promises to return – mishaps and all. |
