About Wexford
I finally made it to Wexford after what felt like the world's most disorganised drive down from Dublin. I'd set off full of beans, playlist blasting some classic Oasis tracks, but about halfway there, disaster struck – my sat-nav decided to throw a wobbly and rerouted me down a narrow country lane that was basically a mudslide waiting to happen. Picture this: me, white-knuckling the steering wheel, dodging potholes the size of dinner plates while my passenger (my mate Dave, bless him) is in the back seat giggling like a schoolboy and filming the whole thing for TikTok. We arrived at the cottage outskirts of Adamstown looking like we'd been mud-wrestling – car splattered, wellies caked, and me swearing under my breath that I'd never trust technology again. Talk about a baptism of muck!

But honestly, stepping through that gate after the chaos? Pure magic. It's this cosy detached single-storey cottage, tucked away peacefully with a lovely lawned garden that instantly washed away the stress. We parked up in the off-road spot, shook off the dirt, and wandered in, hit by the warmest first impressions. The place just hugs you – plush seats in the sitting room begging you to flop down with a cuppa, a log burner ready to crackle away (though we didn't light it straight off, saving that treat for evening), and a telly for plotting the day's adventures. The kitchen-diner's a proper self-catering dream: electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, even a washing machine to rescue our filthy clothes. We stocked the cupboards with local bits from a quick shop in Adamstown – rashers, eggs, and a cheeky bottle of Wexford cider – and within minutes, I was whipping up bacon sarnies at the table for three, feeling like a proper domestic god.

That messy arrival had us in stitches, but it made the peace hit even harder. From there, we ventured out to nearby gems, just a short hop away. First stop was the John F. Kennedy Arboretum, not five minutes down the road – those winding paths through exotic trees felt like stepping into a secret garden, with views over the county that had us snapping pics non-stop. We wandered the trails, me pondering how JFK's Irish roots planted this spot, and had a gentle laugh when Dave got tangled in some low branches, echoing our earlier car fiasco. Lunch was at a wee café in the village, demolishing seafood chowder that was fresh as the morning tide from Wexford's coast.

Afternoons blurred into easy rambles around Adamstown's quiet lanes, popping into the local shop for more supplies and chatting with folks who couldn't have been friendlier. Evenings back at the cottage were bliss – tea in hand, feet up, planning nothing but unwinding. One night, staring into the garden as the sun dipped, I had a proper moment of self-reflection: life's too short for sat-nav tantrums; sometimes the mishaps make the best stories. This Wexford hideaway was the perfect reset – no frills, just proper Irish welcome. If you're after a laid-back couple's or mates' escape with touring on the doorstep, you won't go wrong here. Can't wait to go back, minus the mud next time!
