About Edinburgh
Pulling up to the spot was a treat right away – roadside parking for our little hatchback, no faffing about with permits or hills. It’s a cracking ground-floor apartment, pet-friendly and all cosied up near the beach, with that effortless style that screams “relax here, don’t rush off anywhere.” Stepping inside, the sitting room hit us like a warm hug: Smart TV humming softly, woodburning stove ready to glow come evening, and just the right amount of squishy seating to flop into. The kitchen-diner was a dream for lazy cooks like me – everything you could need to rustle up a fry-up or heat a soup, with a proper dining table for lingering over brews. But the real star? That enclosed rear patio out back, private as you like, with sea views that made you forget the world existed. We’d planned this as our ultimate do-nothing holiday, and boy, did we nail it. No grand itineraries, no ticking off tourist traps – just sinking into the joy of proper slowing down. Mornings kicked off on the patio with coffee steaming in mugs, toes curling against the cool tiles, watching dog-walkers amble along the shore and seals bobbing in the waves. Our pup, Monty, loved it too, chasing shadows while we pretended to read the papers. I’d crack open a book – some trashy thriller I’d been saving – and lose hours propped against cushions, only breaking to top up tea. Lunch was whatever we fancied from the well-stocked kitchen: cheese toasties one day, a lazy pasta the next, eaten right there at the table with the radio on low. Afternoons blurred into that perfect haze. We’d light the stove early if a chill crept in, curl up with mugs of something hot, and let the TV flicker through old films. One evening, as the sun dipped low over the water, we dragged blankets outside for alfresco nibbles – crisps, dips, a bottle of wine – Monty snoring at our feet. It was blissfully uneventful, the kind of day where time stretches like toffee. I caught myself reflecting one quiet moment, staring out at the horizon: how often do we bolt through life at full pelt? Here, doing sod-all felt like the ultimate luxury, recharging batteries I didn’t know were flat. By the end of our stay, we were loath to leave this little haven. Kinghorn’s gentle rhythm had worked its magic – no regrets, just a promise to return for more of those gloriously idle days. If you’re craving a coastal slowdown, this is your spot. |
