About Inverness
I’ll never forget the drive up to that glamping pod near Inverness – a proper Scottish adventure that started with a classic me moment. We’d left Edinburgh early, buzzing with anticipation for a lazy break in the Highlands, but about halfway, I took a wrong turn onto some narrow B-road, convinced my phone’s satnav was having a laugh. Cue 20 minutes of looping through misty fields, with my partner sighing and our dog whining from the back seat. “Are we there yet?” I joked, but honestly, it just added to the fun – nothing like a bit of unplanned scenic detour to get you in holiday mode.

Finally rolling up just three miles from Cawdor, the first impressions were spot on. Tucked beside the River Nairn, this stylish dog-friendly pod looked like a cosy modern hideaway, all sleek lines and welcoming vibes, with a private deck overlooking rolling countryside. We unpacked in no time, the king-sized bed screaming “nap time” and the well-equipped kitchen already stocked with thoughtful extras like fresh milk and biscuits. The wood-fired hot tub on the deck? Pure genius. Our pup bounded straight out to sniff the garden, tail wagging like mad.

From that moment, it was all about doing sod all – and I mean that in the best possible way. No packed itineraries, no rushing to tick off castles or beaches along the Moray Firth. Instead, lazy mornings started with brewing tea in the kitchen, then sprawling on the deck with a book as the river murmured below. The panoramic views were mesmerising – sheep-dotted hills, the odd buzzard soaring overhead. I’d lose hours reading some trashy novel, feet up, while the gas central heating kept everything toasty even on cooler days.

Afternoons blurred into hot tub sessions, firing up that wood burner and sinking into steaming bubbles as the sun dipped low. Our dog would flop nearby in the garden, chasing butterflies or just sunbathing, utterly content. We’d wander the shortest scenic walks right from the door – gentle riverside paths where you could spot herons or hear the water trickling over stones. No need to drive; it was blissfully close to everything yet felt worlds away from Inverness’s bustle or Nairn’s golf links.

One evening, lounging with a glass of wine and the Smart TV flickering some daft comedy, I had a proper moment of self-reflection. Back home, life’s a whirlwind of deadlines and to-do lists – always chasing the next thing. Here, time stretched out luxuriously. I caught myself grinning at nothing, thinking, “This is it, isn’t it? Just being.” No grand adventures required; the joy was in slowing right down, letting the pod’s contemporary comforts wrap around us like a hug.

We did pop into Cawdor for a quick village amble once, but mostly it was garden lounging, wet room showers after lazy dips, and Wi-Fi for the odd weather check. By the end, we’d made the simplest memories – shared silences, dog cuddles, and that rare feeling of being truly recharged. If you fancy switching off in the Highlands, find yourself a spot like this. Pure magic.
