About Isle Of Skye
I’ll never forget the drive up to the Isle of Skye – that winding single-track road from the bridge had us gripping the wheel like it was a rollercoaster. We’d set off from the mainland full of beans, dreaming of fairy pools and whisky by the fire, but about halfway in, disaster struck: a cheeky sheep decided our hire car made a perfect scratching post. No harm done, just a bit of woolly fluff in the grille and me laughing so hard I nearly drove into a ditch. Typical Skye welcome, eh? By the time we trundled into Skeabost Bridge, we were buzzing with that proper holiday anticipation – you know, the kind where you’re starving but too excited to care.

Pulling up to the cottage, my first impressions were spot on. It’s this snug little retreat, perfect for us two – a relaxed couple break without the fuss. Portree’s just 6.6 miles away if you fancy a potter, but honestly, we barely left the spot. Stepping inside, the sitting room wrapped us up like a warm hug, all cosy for kicking back after a day out. The kitchen/diner’s a gem too – oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, the lot – dead handy for knocking up a pasta when the midges chase you home.

Our days melted into this blissful rhythm of simple pleasures and cottage chaos. Mornings started with brekkie overlooking the river, then we’d amble down to Skeabost Bridge’s quiet paths, spotting herons and breathing in that crisp Highland air. One afternoon, we wandered the nearby trails – nothing too strenuous, just enough to work up an appetite for cheese toasties. The views! Sweeping hills and that rugged charm everywhere you look. We even nipped to the wee golf course right by, where I hilariously shanked my ball into the water (gentle self-reflection: maybe stick to putt-putt next time, eh?).

Evenings were pure magic. We’d light the fire, crack open a bottle of Skye ale, and plan daft adventures over dinner. Chaos crept in one night when the toaster rebelled – smoke everywhere, alarms blaring, us flapping about like headless chickens. Turned into the best laugh, though, ending with fish and chips from the local van. No grand hikes to the Cuillins or anything mad – we kept it local, savouring the fairy lights in the garden, the sound of the water, and those unexpected rain showers that send you scarpering inside for tea and telly.

It was one of those holidays that reminds you what matters: no schedules, just us, the cottage, and Skye’s wild whisper. We left fatter, happier, and already plotting a return. If you’re after a chilled escape, this is it.
