About Perthshire
Pulling up to our first-floor apartment in the heart of charming Aberfeldy, we were smitten straight away. Tucked away in a welcoming Perth and Kinross spot, it’s the sort of place that feels like a hug after a long journey – single-level bliss for up to five of us, pet-friendly too, with everything you need just a stroll away. The spacious living-dining room screamed family film nights, sofas begging for socked feet and a bowl of popcorn. That kitchen? Fully kitted out for whipping up shepherd’s pie or my half-arsed attempt at tablet fudge, then gathering round the table to clink glasses and swap daft stories. First morning, we wandered down to the River Tay, right on our doorstep – the kids and the dog splashing about while I sipped coffee from a flask, marvelling at how the water sparkled under that crisp Scottish sun. Aberfeldy’s got this unhurried vibe; we popped into the local bakery for warm scones slathered in jam, then ambled to the Dewar’s World of Whisky for a quick peek (non-alcoholic tour for the littles, obviously). No grand plans, just simple joys – gathering sticks for a den in the nearby birch woods, or letting the dog chase squirrels in the community park. One afternoon, chaos reigned supreme when we tried a family bake-off in the kitchen. Flour exploded like a snowstorm, the youngest ended up with dough in her hair, and our “cookies” could’ve doubled as hockey pucks. Laughing till our sides hurt, we ditched perfection and tucked into them anyway with cups of tea. That’s cottage life for you – a bit messy, utterly brilliant. Evenings were pure magic: curling up for a Disney flick as rain pattered the windows, or playing charades till we were hoarse. A short hop to the Birks of Aberfeldy for a gentle waterfall walk, hand-in-hand, breathing in that piney air. I had a quiet moment one dusk, watching the family silhouetted against the hills, thinking how these pockets of nothing-much are what recharge the soul. We didn’t need fancy thrills; just this relaxed Perthshire bubble, full of warmth, walks, and the kind of memories that stick. Heading home, car a tad cleaner than the outbound trip, I’m already plotting our return. If you’re after a family break that’s all heart and no hassle, Perthshire’s got you covered. |
