About Perthshire
Tucked away amongst mature trees in the picturesque Pitlochry, Perthshire, is this luxury detached holiday home – and what a belter it turned out to be. First impressions? Spot on. We pulled up to this elegant, spacious place with its welcoming glow through the windows, and stepping inside felt like a hug from an old friend. Plush sofas, a cracking kitchen, and views that made you forget the earlier drenching. Perfect base for what we hoped would be epic walks in the Perthshire hills. Day one, the weather played nice – rare for Scotland, eh? Blue skies beckoned, so we laced up and headed straight for the Loch a’ Choire path, just a short stroll from the door. It’s one of those cracking local hikes, winding up through birch woods to a glassy loch with views over the Pass of Killiecrankie. We puffed our way up, stopping for snaps and the odd daft pose, me pretending to be a mountain goat. The air was crisp, heather blooming purple underfoot, and that first summit high? Pure magic. Made me reflect on how I never make time for this at home – too busy scrolling, not enough striding. But oh, the British weather, that cheeky sod. Next morning, it flipped like a bad mood. Lashing rain turned our planned jaunt along the River Garry into a no-go. We pivoted to the Hermitage, a gentle riverside walk nearby that’s sheltered by those towering Douglas firs. Even in the drizzle, it was atmospheric – waterfalls thundering, the Black Linn roaring like it had a grudge. We huddled under umbrellas, splashing through puddles, laughing at how my trainers turned into soggy sponges. “This is character-building,” I quipped, though secretly dreaming of the wood burner back at the house. By afternoon, a sneaky break in the clouds lured us out again for the path to Ben Vrackie’s lower slopes – nothing too gnarly, just enough to feel alive. Misty vistas rolled out, sheep bleating in the distance, and that post-hike tea tasting like nectar. The weather kept us on our toes, forcing shorter loops around Loch Faskally instead of all-day epics, but it added to the charm. No grand conquests, just those perfect, soggy Perthshire rambles that stick with you. Looking back, that mishap drive set the tone – holidays aren’t about flawless plans, but rolling with the rain and savouring the views. We left fitter, happier, and plotting a return. Perthshire’s walks? They’ll get you every time. |
