About Perthshire
I’ll never forget the drive up to Pitlochry – our sat-nav decided to throw a wobbly just as we hit the A9, rerouting us through some winding back lane that felt like it hadn’t seen a car since the Jacobites. Bags sliding everywhere in the boot, kids bickering over the last crisps, and me white-knuckling the wheel while my other half tried to placate everyone with off-key singing. By the time we spotted the town’s twinkling lights, we were a right state – windswept, starving, and questioning why we hadn’t just stayed home with a Deliveroo.

But oh, pulling up to this gorgeous seven-bedroom haven in the heart of Perthshire? Instant magic. If Pitlochry is the gateway to the Highlands, this family-friendly spot is the gateway to your heart. It’s smack in the middle of the picturesque town, with beautiful grounds that wrapped around us like a warm hug the second we tumbled out of the car. We’d been buzzing with anticipation all week – visions of cosy firesides and Highland air – and it didn’t disappoint. The spacious interior hit us first: roomy enough for our rabble of 14 (extended family in tow), yet understated luxurious, like it was built for lazy mornings and epic catch-ups. Walking through those doors, you could practically feel the stresses of school runs and deadlines evaporating.

First impressions? Bloody brilliant – sorry, make that blooming brilliant. We dumped our bags in the huge communal areas and straight away raided the well-stocked kitchen for tea and biccies. The kids dashed out to explore the grounds, whooping at the open spaces perfect for a kickabout, while we adults cracked open a bottle and sank into the plush seating. It’s got that perfect vibe for special occasions or just a big get-together – flexible for whatever you fancy, be it chilling with a book or plotting tomorrow’s adventures.

That first evening set the tone. We wandered a quick five-minute stroll to the town centre, grabbing fish suppers from a chippy that smelled like heaven, then back for board games around the massive dining table. A little chaos lingered – one suitcase had burst open in the hall, spilling socks everywhere – but it just added to the fun. Sat there later, gazing out at the starry Perthshire sky, I had a quiet moment of self-reflection: when did life get so hectic that we forgot how good it feels to unplug like this? This place reminded me – amid the laughter and mild mayhem – that holidays aren’t about perfection; they’re about those first, heart-swelling impressions that make you want to book the next one already.

Next morning, we hit the nearby paths for a gentle riverside walk along the Tay, breathing in that crisp Highland air, before a lazy afternoon pottering around the local shops for fudge and shortbread. It’s all right there – no need to venture far. Honestly, from that bumpy arrival to sinking into its welcoming arms, it’s the kind of spot that turns a holiday into memories you’ll chinwag about for years. Can’t recommend it enough.
