About St Andrews
Pulling up to the place, we were gobsmacked. Set within the rolling countryside of Fife, it offered a carefully considered escape designed for slowing down and switching off. Framed by open views across the surrounding landscape and out towards the sea, the space had been created to feel connected to nature while maintaining a high level of comfort throughout the seasons. It was one of those cosy holiday cottages that hits you right in the feels—welcoming without trying too hard, perfect for us lot who fancy a bit of rural bliss over city hustle. First morning, we cracked open the windows to that fresh sea air and rustled up a full Scottish brekkie in the kitchen. Nothing fancy, just bacon sizzling and toast on the go, but with those views, it felt like a Michelin-star affair. We ambled down to nearby Leven beach, just a short drive away, for a proper coastal wander. The sand was cool underfoot, waves lapping lazily, and we collected a few shells like daft kids. Back at the cottage, chaos ensued when I tried my hand at baking sconies—flour everywhere, oven smoking a tad, but we devoured them anyway with jam and clotted cream, giggling over the mess. Afternoons were for pure loafing. We'd sink into the comfy seating with mugs of tea, watching rabbits hop about the fields or spotting gulls wheeling over the water. One evening, we ventured into St Andrews itself—only a quick hop along the coast—and pottered around the harbour, grabbing fish and chips wrapped in paper, eaten on a bench as the sun dipped low. The old town's charm is timeless, those cobbled streets whispering history without demanding you rush. There was this gentle moment of self-reflection one night, sat by the window with a glass of wine. We've been so caught up in work and routines lately, you forget how simple it is to just breathe. No emails pinging, no schedules—just us, the countryside hum, and the sea's distant murmur. It made me chuckle thinking how I used to scoff at "doing nothing" holidays. Turns out, cottage life chaos—like spilling tea while birdwatching or burning the toast—is the best kind of reset. We left feeling recharged, already plotting a return. If you're after that relaxed couple's break, with views that soothe the soul and space to properly switch off, this Fife gem is spot on. Proper holiday magic. |
