About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive over to Anglesey – we’d packed the car to the gills with wellies, board games, and enough snacks to feed a small army, only for the sat-nav to chuck us into a massive traffic snarl-up just past Bangor. Picture this: me white-knuckling the wheel, the other half munching crisps like it’s the end times, and our two little ones in the back chanting “Are we there yet?” on repeat. A classic family road trip mishap, but honestly, it just ramped up the anticipation. By the time we trundled into Trearddur Bay, I was buzzing – those first glimpses of the sea sparkling under the Welsh sun had us all grinning like idiots.

Pulling up to our little holiday spot on the outskirts of Trearddur Bay in Caergybi felt like unwrapping a present. It’s this delightful one-bedroom living space, a garage conversion done up into a modern, comfy haven that really lives up to its welcoming Welsh vibe – a proper home away from home for me, the missus, and the kids. We parked right on the driveway, then wandered round the back to this enclosed patio with a barbecue, bistro table, and chairs. Blimey, that first morning coffee out there, plotting our day with the bay just a stone’s throw away? Pure bliss. No faffing about with fancy setups – just simple alfresco joy.

Inside, the open-plan living area was spot on for us lot. The well-equipped kitchen had everything to whip up fish finger suppers or impress with a cheeky pasta bake, which we scoffed at the dining table with a bottle of fizz (non-alcoholic for the nippers, mind). It was chaos in the best way – kids zooming about, us tripping over toys, but that’s cottage life for you. We’d flop on the sofa after, watching the telly or playing Uno till bedtime, knackered but happy.

Days blurred into this relaxed rhythm of beach bimbles and simple pleasures. Trearddur Bay’s sands were our playground – building wonky sandcastles that inevitably collapsed (much hilarity), paddling in the shallow waves, and spotting seals bobbing about. One afternoon, we hired some bodyboards from the beach shop and spent hours tumbling in the surf like a pack of seals ourselves. The sunsets were crackers – all fiery pinks over the water, perfect for a post-paddle barbecue on that patio. Even the rain didn’t dampen spirits; we’d hunker down with hot chocolate, reading Beano annuals or doing jigsaws, listening to the patter on the roof.

There was this one gentle moment of self-reflection as I sat on the patio one evening, kids tucked up inside, other half dozing nearby. Amid the holiday whirl, I realised how these little escapes recharge the batteries – no schedules, just us making memories in our cosy nook. No grand adventures needed; the magic’s in the everyday muddle. Anglesey’s got that knack for slowing you down. We left with sandy shoes, fuller hearts, and already plotting a return. If you’re after a chilled family break, this is the ticket.
