About Anglesey
I’ll never forget the drive to Anglesey that Friday afternoon – sat nav insisting we take a sneaky shortcut through some winding lanes near Llanfairpwll, only for us to end up behind a flock of sheep that decided our hire car was their new best mate. The farmer waved us on with a grin, but by the time we’d disentangled ourselves, I was starving, the kids were bickering over crisps, and my other half was pretending not to laugh at my increasingly daft attempts to parallel park on a verge. Still, as we finally rolled into Marian-glas, the tension melted away. The sea air hit us first, that salty tang promising proper Welsh coast vibes, and I could already picture us kicking back with fish and chips later.

Pulling up to the place, we were buzzing with that arrival anticipation – you know, the bit where everything’s crossed fingers for no damp smells or wonky doors. It’s a charming second-floor apartment, all light and airy in that effortless coastal style, tucked away in a spot that feels miles from anywhere but is just a short hop to Benllech’s sandy beach. We hauled our bags up the stairs (note to self: pack lighter next time), fumbled the key code for a comical five minutes – classic us – and then... wow. Stepping inside, the open-plan living space opened right up like an invitation to unwind. The kitchen’s kitted out just right for knocking up a fry-up or pasta, with a dining table for four that screamed family dinners, and the sitting area? Pure bliss, with doors straight out to a balcony boasting cracking sea views across the fields to the coastline. We dumped our stuff and piled out there immediately, mugs of tea in hand, watching gulls wheel over the waves. First impressions? Spot on – it felt like home but with better scenery.

That mishap-riddled journey only made the payoff sweeter. We spent the first evening mooching down to Benllech, barely a mile away, for ice creams and a paddle in the shallows – the beach there’s a belter, wide and golden even on a breezy day. Back at the flat, we cracked open a bottle of plonk on the balcony as the sun dipped, the kids conking out early from fresh air overload. I had one of those quiet moments, leaning on the railing, thinking how daft it is that we city folk wait all year for this. Work stress? What work stress? It’s funny how a bit of chaos getting there sharpens the joy of just... being.

Next morning, we wandered local paths towards Red Wharf Bay, spotting seals bobbing offshore, then lunched at a nearby café on crab sandwiches that were fresh as you like. Afternoons blurred into beach cricket, rockpooling, and lazy barbecues on the balcony – the views made every sausage taste gourmet. Sure, we had a minor panic when the washing machine decided to sulk, but a quick call sorted it, and honestly, it just added to the stories. By the end of the week, I was gutted to pack up, but already plotting our return. Anglesey’s got that magic – unpretentious, stunning, and just the ticket for recharging. If you’re after a proper holiday base, this corner of Marian-glas delivers in spades.
